Kevin, the episode with Spike and the cross was Beneath You.

Even Sophist's favorite episodes like Reptile Boy or Bad Eggs

Heh.
You forgot Go Fish and Inca Mummy Girl.

It's interesting about the seasons. S3 has a very tightly constructed seasonal arc, with no weak eps other than DMP (which makes me want to strangle Xander, Willow, and Joyce). By the same token, there are no standouts that season either, certainly nothing to compare with OMWF, TR, DT, NA, BY, Selfless, CWDP, etc. That makes it hard to compare the seasons.

My own view is that S6 and 7 suffer from some misfires which affected the seasonal arcs rather than individual episodes. In S2 an ep like IMG had no lasting impact. In S6 an ep like Wrecked had effects which lasted the remainder of the show. That may cause us to judge the seasonal arc more harshly than would be justified by the greatness of individual episodes.

Someone on another Board once said that BTVS had the greatest series finale of any show in history, but just ran 2 seasons beyond that. I agree in some sense, but while I might have been satisfied if the show had ended with TG, I would have been very unhappy to wake up in the afterlife and find out that I'd missed the 15 or so great episodes which we got in S6/7. If that happened, I'd know where I was.
