Subject: GUILD INVITE/REMOVAL PROCESS...Please read!!!

I think its quite obvious now that we have been giving WAY too much leeway to our /guildinvites. Lately we have seen too many bad apples coming in and out of our guild its literally pathetic. Therefore, I have some suggestions from years of experience playing EQ as a guild member, officer, and a leader:

1) Requirement Listing.

Not too long ago all the officers (and even members) agreed to the lvl requirement. I think it was around 25+ for most people. But anyway, perhaps there should be a few more requirements we should assess (age in real life, must have a reference/friend already in the guild, must have grouped with guildmembers at least X amount of times, etc). These requirements should also be posted with our RULES OF CONDUCT.

2) Rules of Conduct.

This session among the recruiting process should be made VERY CLEAR for all members and people looking to join. We should cover certain topics such as behavior standards inside and outside of guildchat, guild raids, and even grouping with non-members (swearing, powerleveling, BEGGING FOR ITEMS, etc.) It should also cover our loot policy on raids and grouping. I know we don't have one, which is why I'm bringing it up now. The Rules of Conduct for the most part, would be our Guild LAW. Any offense against these rules would be subject to anything from a simple warning, a probationary period, or guild removal depending on the seriousness of the offense. Any person who is interested in joining MUST read the Requirement and Rules of Conduct BEFORE they even fill out the application.

3) An application or questionaire/survey.

This would be our bare bones on the decision making to whether we even CONSIDER letting someone be guilded. A) The application will consist of listing ALL of your mains/alts (names, levels, classes, etc.) B) It would also be asking very specific questions such as how long have you played EQ, do you have any other toons on other servers, how OFTEN do you play on those servers (if applicable), how often do you play on THIS server within a given week/month (as an example). C) It should also cover how old you are in real life (yes, this is necessary). If you invite a 12 year-old in our guild, guess what...thats the maturity level you are going to get and what other people OUTSIDE our guild is going to see. D) The application should also cover PRIOR guilds you have been in, and for how long you were with them. This will be our background check. We can find out from those guilds how their standing was and the reason they are no longer with them. There are other questions that we may want to ask too, but these are just the more important ones. If it is justified that the applicant has reviewed AND understood the requirement, rules of conduct, and has a good enough application, THEN they will get the /guildinvite. After that, we move on to the probationary period.

4) Probationary Period

After the applicant recieves the /guildinvite, that particular officer must IMMEDIATELY inform the new member that he/she is on a probationary period. During this period of 30 days, all officers and members will keep a "watchful" eye on the new member. In order to keep track of time and our new recruits, the officer UPON invitation, shall place clearly "Probation: Starting 9/29" under the guild management tool. This is just an example. During this period of time, if the new member fails to meet our standards/rules of conduct, they will immediately be given one, and ONLY one warning and be refered back to the rules by a appropriate officer. If they fail again, they will be /guildremoved. Easy as that.

5) Guild Removal

A) Obviously, any member failing to meet our requirements/standards/rules of conduct within our Probationary Period is subject. B) For those of us who are past our probationary period and even those who have been with us for a long period of time, there will be a little more leeway. In most cases, there should be a "3 strikes your out" policy. If it is a minor offense, the member will recieve a warning. If they recieve 2 more within a certain amount of time (say, 2 months), they are history. If it is a major offense (game hacking, screaming foul language across entire zones, ripping people off in the bazaar, etc.), the very FIRST available officer will be contacted and notified of the issue. That officer shall contact another officer and if the 2 both agree, that person shall be /guildremoved. This way, Jinx doesn't necessarily have to be online. The only exceptions would be if it was an actual officer making the offense, and if the offender is on their probationary period. In that case, that particular officer has the discretion for immediate removal depending on the situation.

CONCLUSION

I know that this seems like a lot. But when it is actually put into play it is quite simple. Just follow easy rules, don't degrade your fellow guildies and you're fine ;o). I think these suggestions should really be looked at and some very serious meetings should be held. Ok, getting off my soap box here, go have fun, hehe.
