Here is our problem, in order to correct a deficiency the preponderance must recognize first that the deficiency exist, and second that the deficiency is of such a nature that it is a threat to the product, in this case the Boerboel. The show only community as well as the show only registries do not admit either of the above because if they did they would have to face the probability that many of there breed stock may be deficient and of less or no value to there breeding plan and therefore would have to be removed. I am assuming for the sake to this discussion that when we speak of a breeding plan it is to maintain and improve our breed. That is why, on reflection, this change coming from within is not realistic, IMO as bureaucracies have difficulties admitting a mistake especially where money power and pride is involved. When there are enough breeders who demand change and who care about the whole Boerboel the potential loss of members, i.e., money, the existing power structure will either start to change or face the real possibility of working registries forming with enough members to provide a clear choice to purchasers. The existing show registries will fight this change by trying to demonize it ,i.e., the AKC SABT, by saying it is dangerous or not needed. It is good to remember the facts have little to do with this discussion regarding registries recognizing temperament, work ethic and movement in our working breed because if it did they would already have a breed specific test in place, make no mistake this is all about power and money IMO. That said I am pleased with any effort to identify the total Boerboel. Norman
