Subject: Pop-Quiz Time........!!!

Okay, Ani, now that I'm less exasperated (the recent changes to the Forums at JA is making everybody depressed. There's only so much I can take of that before I get exasperated. I'm sorry for taking it out on you, Ani. I was frustrated that the people I know at JA weren't acting like the Jedi that I know they are, the Jedi I see inside each of them, but, that's still no excuse to take it out on you. It was wrong, and I'm sorry.), I'll explain KU and PS.

Basically, every subject, like Maths, Science, and IT, has two sides to it. Knowledge and Understanding, and Problem Solving. Basically, Knowledge and Understanding is.. well... how much you know about the subject. Problem Solving is when a subject gives you a "problem" question, perhaps along the lines of "There were 3 soldiers - Marty, Sammy, and Danny. These 3 soldiers had 20 plumapples. How would the 20 Plumapples be shared out among them if there are only 3 of them, and 20 plumapples?" (Obviously, that's a maths question. There are others, and some can be more difficult to figure out than this rather easy one I've given you. :)) KU would probably be something along the lines of, "What do RAM and ROM stand for, what are they, and what is the difference between them?" Which is obviously ICT. (Caitlin would know this one......) You would answer this one sort of like: "RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and ROM stands for Read Only Memory. These are two different types of memory storage on your computer. RAM is temporary; i.e, if you are typing a document, it is stored in RAM until you save it, and, if the computer gets turned off while you are typing this document, you lose all the data, because when you turn off the computer, you lose any data that is stored in RAM. ROM, on the other hand, is permanent; i.e, part of the Operating System is stored in ROM, because otherwise, you would have to reboot the system upon startup. ROM is the part of the physical memory; i.e, it is in the memory chip. Another example would be the CD-ROM, in which you can only save to the CD once, but, you cannot write over the stored file." Or, in maths, you may get this type of question for KU:

Solve this equation: 4(3a+5) = 6(3+6a)

Which would be answered with:
4(3a+5) = 6(3+6a)
=12a+20 = 18+36a
-12a = -12a
= 20 = 18+24a
-18 = -18
= 2 = 24a
*24 *24(there's no divide symbol - Stupid 'puters)
= 0.08 = a

a=0.08

(TADA-DA!)

Speaking of maths, we're working on Trigonometry at the moment! How very simple!! :D

First, ya have your right angled triangle. If the hypotenuse is not marked in, now is the time to figure it out with Pythagoras Theorum, i.e, a²=b²+c².

For example:
If the base and height of your right-angled triangle were 3cm and 4cm, you could say:
By Pythagoras:a²=b²+c²
a²=4²+3²
a²=16+9
a²=25
a= squared root of 25 (I couldn't find the root sign)
a=5cm

Which means the hypotenuse is 5cm.

Now, to find the Tangent of your triangle, you could say,

TanA=Opp/Adj (Opposite over adjacent - The opposite is the side opposite the angle of the hypotenuse. The adjacent is the side adjacent to the opposite. Basically, for this triangle, the opposite would be the height, the adjacent would be the base.)
TanA=4/3
TanA=1.3333333

Hehehehe!

But, if you own a scientific calculator, try typing 90 into your calculator (make sure it is in degrees mode; this is signified by the DEG at the top of the screen.), then, if you are using a casio, press the Tan button. If you are using a sharp, type in Tan first, then type in 90, and press the equals button. The calculator cannot cope, and, in the case of the casio calculator, a little "-E-" comes up! Hehehehe!

Hey, Ani, as a pop-quiz, how WOULD Danny, Sammy and Marty share out the plumapples if there are 3 of them, and 20 plumapples?

~Fi.
