Thanks for your explanation, Fiona. So these subjects have elements of maths, language and general knowledge. I've learnt what you've mentioned, but under very specific subjects with static titles such as Additional Mathematics, Operating Systems etc. I'm sorry to have exasperated you.

I must admit that I have no idea what a plumapple is. I've never heard of it. I guess it's a kind of fruit, but of course I may be totally off track.

Firstly, how do the 3 soldiers want to share the plumapples? If they want to share the plumapples equally, of course they will each get 6 and 2/3 plumapples. If no plumapples are to be divided into fractions, each will get only 6 plumapples, with 2 left unshared.

If the soldiers were to share the plumapples according to some unequal ratio e.g. 6:7:7, of course there would be lots of ways to divide them. Or, if you were kind enough to give them 1 more plumapple, they can have 7 plumapples each. You could also participate in the division, so each of you will get 5 plumapples.

I suspect that a plumapple can also be made into juice. Hence these 20 plumapples can be made into a huge pot of juice, which the poor soldiers can share equally now. Then there will be no leftovers or unfairness. Or if a plumapple is an ingredient, we can make soup from it to share out equally. If a plumapple is a bait for bass, the soldiers could use it to fish for a number of basses which is divisible by 3, and share the fish out equally.

There are so many ways to look at the problem. There is no well-defined condition. What exactly does the question require? Is it a general knowledge question or simply math?

Seems to me you are studying elementary mathematics. Good luck and work hard!
