Rahine stood at the large window that gave an extraordinary view or Alexandria, she clasped her hands tighter in front of her and hissed.
“Everything is lost!”
Jürgen slowly slid off the silk covered couch and approached her. His arms surrounding her waist he gently rested his chin on her shoulder.
“What is lost my dear? Jamil will soon begin to feel the effects of the poison we introduced into his meals and then you will be able to play with Michael as long as you wish. Being the widow of the Kalifah of Egypt will give you much power, specially if you have a son before he dies.”
Rahine turned in his arms and sighed, burring her face against his bare chest she smiled and nodded.
“Jamil has been gone for two days now, where could he be?”
Jürgen smiled knowingly and nuzzled her neck with his nose.
“He’s gone, that’s all we need to know, he’ll take his time returning, maybe he will die while he’s there. That would make it easier for us don’t you think?”
Her smile faltered a bit as she thought about her sister. “It’s not like him to not come to me the night before he goes hunting. He simply left without telling me.” She pouted softly.
Jürgen smiled and gently caressed her derriere, making her sigh and press herself tighter against him.
"I wish Madeline was here, she would have been so happy to
see her son free of that retched place. Of course she always enjoyed to play with his emotions and now......well I just wish I had been allowed to play a little with
him.”
Jürgen stiffened. “You still want him?”
Rahine looked up into his badly scared face. “He is cute, and from what I’ve heard a good partner in bed.” Stepping back she smiled at seeing Jürgen’s eyes flash with anger. “You’re jealous!”
Jürgen turned and quickly walked away from her. Reaching the door he turned his head and glared at her.
“You’ll always be a whore just like your sister
Marianne.” He stated, opening the door he quickly stepped through and slammed the door closed.
Rahine smiled softly, playing with a soft curl, she turned and gazed out toward the bay.
“Yes my love, I’m a whore. Madeline and I were taught well by our trainers, too bad she isn’t here to teach me what she learned under that army lieutenant’s tutelage.” She whispered.
A knock att he door made her jump, turning she glared at the door. “I said no interruptions!” She shouted.
Another knock was her only answer, exasperated she walked to the door and opened it. Kneeling before her was young Parry, her private serving maid.
“Took you long enough to get here, enter and tell me what you know.”
Parry stood and stepped into the room. “Lalla, there is a complication, the Kalifah is gone, he left with his private escort two nights ago.”
Rahine slammed the door closed and grabbed Parry by the biceps. “What do you mean gone? He went hunting as usual.” She stated calmly.
Parry trembled softly and shook her head. “Inero said he left with his private guard last night, he went to Shantal.”
“Impossible! Guaro and Rashid are his private guards, they would have sent word that Jamil was leaving-“
Parry shook her head. “They were dismissed yesterday afternoon, after Jamil found out they were spying for you. He chose three new guards and left.”
Rahine sighed, turning she returned to the window and opened it, allowing the fresh sea air to enter the spacious room. “Dismissed? You mean disposed of correct?”
The young girl nodded and fell to her knees. “What shall I do Lalla?”
The older woman stared out toward the bay, the breeze playing softly with her dark curls. “Nothin-“
The door slammed open, making both women jump. Rahine spun around, her lips parting to castigate with harsh words whoever had so rudely opened the door. But her heart skipped a beat at seeing who stood at the door. Her gaze drifted down the long curly dark hair, the soft curbs and pale skin of her own sister.
“Madeline?” Rahine croaked as her heart jump started.
The older woman smiled softly, her skin had become tanned, her expensive clothing had been exchanged for cotton rags, her feet ached after wearing flat shoes for so long.
“Hello dearest Marianne, I heard you were here and decided to visit.” Madeline stated as she crossed the room and seated herself on the silk covered couch.
Parry gasped as she dared to look at Madeline. She noticed the similarity in both women’s features, the dark curls and soft brown eyes. She lowered her gaze to the floor once again and slowly lifted her hand.
“Lalla, may I be excused?”
Rahine shivered, slowly she lowered her gaze and met Parry’s gentle dark eyes.
“Go, and make sure my slave is kept away from here. We do not want my sister to see him just yet.”
Parry stood and bowing she quickly left the chamber, closing the door behind her she sighed. Looking around she rushed down the corridor toward the blonde
man’s chamber. “I didn’t expect this.” She mumbled as she picked up her feet and ran toward Jürgen’s room.

“What are you doing alive?” Rahine asked as she carefully leaned against the window.
Madeline smiled softly. Rahine noticed that her sister’s eyes sparkled with vivacity and something else she could not describe.
“The poison I took was only a drug, you know well my abilities to force my body into a deathlike phase. I needed to be free, specially after seeing Michael dispose
of Paul. I knew that death was the only way to escape.”
Rahine nodded slowly. “Who helped you?”
Madeline smiled once again, her left hand gently curbed at her throat. “Someone who is now dead.” Looking into Rahine’s dark eyes she smirked. “You know how dangerous is t leave any loose ends right?”
Rahine pushed herself away from the wall and sighed. “I’m afraid that there is more than a loose end now Mad.” She stated as she curled her finger around a strand of her dark hair.
Madeline stared at Rahine for a long time before clasping her hands in her lap and looking expectantly at her sister.
Rahine crossed the room toward the chair across from the couch where Madeline sat, she quickly pushed a button and a manservant entered the room.
“Bring us some food and refreshments, we must celebrate my sister’s return.”
The older man bowed quickly. “Will the usual supper be prepared for such an occasion?” He asked softly.
Rahine smiled and nodded. “Of course, there will be a grand celebration!” She shouted.
The older man bowed once again and closed the door.
Rahine smiled at Madeline. “I have a surprise for you-“
Madeline lifted her hand and stopped Rahine. “First I need your help to bring my son and daughter out of Section. Have you used the profile I suggested?”
Rahine smiled softly and nodded. “That’s exactly what I was going to say. Michael is free.” Noticing Madeline’s eyes flash with concern she amended. “Well as free as he can be for now. He’s at my palace, he should be brought here within the week.”
Madeline stood and knelt before Rahine. “Michael is under your protection? But how did you manage to take him away from that whore he married?”
Rahine took Madeline’s hands in her own and pulled her sister to sit beside her.
“I used the profile you sent to me, it was perfect until......” She lowered her gaze and sighed.
Madeline immediately felt her heart clamp tightly inside her chest. “Until What?”
Rahine stood and returned to her place in front of the window. “Mad, you must understand that I had to use everything in my arsenal to keep him docile.”
Madeline stood and glared at Rahine. “What did you do to him? Is he alive?”
Rahine sighed and shook her head. “I do not know, he was very ill when I left, some kind of virus that was causing blisters to cover his skin. He was fevered and Incoherent. The doctors said he would die, but I have not heard anything since Jamil and I left the palace several days ago.”
Madeline sighed. “How sick was he? Tell me the symptoms.”
Rahine shook her head. “He burned with fever, was completely incoherent and his skin was covered with blisters, like I already explained. The doctors told me he
would not live long. That he suffered from a mutated form of the spanish influeza.”
Madeline stood at the window and sighed. “That illness has not been documented recently, we use a similar variant of the disease for torture and questioning purposes-“
Rahine stood beside her and gasped. “Could he have contracted the disease at Section?” She shivered thinking that she had been exposed to that deadly disease.
Madeline tapped her chin with her index finger, thinking and remembering. Finally she sighed and shook her head.
“It’s possible he contracted the disease inside Section, once I left, a lot of things changed and medications, serums and poisons were discarded, some without the
proper handling techniques.”
Rahine shivered, she wrapped her arms around her waist and stared out toward the bay, where several ships bobbed softly in the water.
“If he was exposed to the Influenza, what are his chances of recovery?” Rahine asked, concerned with her plans being destroyed.
Madeline turned and resumed her seat, taking a deep breath she slowly looked around the room. “I know several who suffered from the original variant survived, some with damage, others lived a long and productive life.”
Rahine took the seat beside Madeline. “And those exposed to your variant?”
Madeline closed her eyes, remembering that only one subject survived. Sighing she opened her eyes and lifted her eyebrow, staring deeply into her sister’s eyes.
“Only one survived, and he’s a lab rat. His brain was decimated and his body is slowly dying.”
Rahine gasped. “You don’t seem worried about the imminent death of your son. Could it be that he is not truly yours?”
Madeline’s smile slowly spread across her face. “He is mine, I know that, no other human being could be as cold and inhuman as he used to be. He inherited my character traits-“
Rahine lowered her gaze to her clasped hands in her lap. “Also your weaknesses.” She whispered softly.
Madeline nodded. “Yes, Michael inherited my love for music, art and the perfection of the human body. He was a good student until Paul decided to betray me and take him away from me.”
Rahine smiled. “Paul was your leader? The man you loved but could never have huh?”
Madeline smiled knowingly. “Yes, and I did have him at the end, once we destroyed the power that inhibited our love. But by then I grew bored with him. Found better and younger toys.”
Rahine nodded. “What will we do with your son?”
Madeline closed her eyes and brushed her fingers across her forehead. “I don’t know yet, first we need to find out if he is infected with the Influenza, then we’ll decide.”
“Of course, I will send Inero to the palace to investigate. If Michael has succumbed to the illness shall he retrieve the body?”
Madeline stiffened slightly but nodded. “Yes if my son has died I desire to hold him before putting him to finally rest with his older sisters.”
Rahine stood and caressed her sister’s cheek. “Wait here, I will return soon.” She stated as she stepped toward the door. “Mad, will you visit be long?”
Madeline smiled. “Yes dearest, I will stay and visit with you forever.”
Rahine flinched and closed the door. “Forever will be too long, my secret love will have to be kept safe and under lock and key until you leave my dear. And he will not be happy to be confined to his chamber all alone.” She thought as she rushed down the corridors to find Inero and send him back to Cairo.
