This story certainly has sparked a lively debate, hasn't it?
Some people loved it, some people didn't. That's the way it goes. It's the risk we take when we post a story on a public forum. You can cross your fingers and hope that if any readers *don't* like it, they just won't say anything, lol, but they/we normally do.
I've read quite a few comments from people who seem to feel that the readers who didn't like the story are simply missing the point that the author was trying to make. What those folks need to understand is that if people don't like it, they're just as entitled to state their opinion as those who loved it. And unless they have some insider information that the rest of us are not privy to, I find it hard to accept their argument that Michael really still loves Nikita in this story and that he was only trying to make a point.
As for me...well, as far as I'm concerned, Michael would never, ever, ever do this to Nikita. That 'gotcha' at the end ruined, for me anyway, a story that I had been enjoying up to that point. Given Michael and Nikita's meeting in #507, a loving and tender reunion with no blame or recriminations, the ending of this story is even harder to swallow.
However, that is simply *my* opinion. Agent Undercover, don't let my words (or anyone else's for that matter) stop you from enjoying the pleasure of writing and posting your stories. You will never please everyone every time.
