Faith

The moonlight glows down, washing out all colors; the passing countryside is all shades and variations of white, black and gray.

Shades of gray.

Like my life, or what little life I have had, the past three years. All shadows, all indistinct.

Lines I thought were immutable... aren’t. No longer can I state: I won’t do that. Because I have found, to my disgust and horror, that there is very little I cannot or will not do.

But it’s all behind me, now... isn’t it? Or can such things be left behind: locked away, ignored and forgotten?

A quiet beep: Nikita? Are you there?

A quick grip around my heart, swiftly suppressed.

No, I think, no she’s not. Nikita’s not here, she died in the explosion.

I don’t know who I am, but I am no longer Nikita.

That is his gift to me: a new life.
