Nikita watched as Michael walked away and possibly out of her life forever. She watched him leave, holding tightly to Adam's hand until they both disappeared in the crowd. She slipped on her sunglasses as tears fell from her eyes. She wondered how she'd find the strength to return to her life in Section One.
"Ma'am?" a nearby operative said, breaking her out of her thoughts, reminding her now who she was.
"Let's go," she replied and lead the way out of the airport.
She was Operations, the leader of Section One. . .
On the ride back to Section, Nikita asked that the radio be turned on. She needed to try and escape the pain she was feeling at saying goodbye to Michael and in the past, music was the one thing that had always helped her to escape the harsh reality of her life in Section.
At her request, the surprised operative switched on the radio and as she requested changed the station. He flipped through the channels, and cringed as suddenly he landed on a country music station. He was about to turn it when Nikita said "Leave it there for a minute."
"This song goes out to N from M with the message 'even though we've said our goodbyes, I know I'll never figure out how I'll live without you. I love you always," the DJ said.
How do I get through one night without you
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be
Oh and I, I need you in my arms
Need you to hold
You're my world, my heart, my soul
If you ever leave
Baby you'd take away everything good in
my life
Tears threatened to stream down Nikita face again as she listened to the words. She looked at the operative. "Turn it now." she ordered. He nodded and turned the station. After several more minutes of searching, she had him shut the radio off. It was just as well because they were arriving back at Section anyways.
After a short visit to Munitions, where Walter had tried his best to cheer her up, Nikita entered the Perch feeling odd even as she did so. She had never desired this job but had only accepted it after Michael's freedom was assured. And she had promised her father she'd carry on the legacy he'd left behind.
"Uh, sugar?" Walter's voice startled her out of her thoughts.
She smiled at how, even now, he refused to call her anything but his sugar. "Yes, Walter?"
He pulled out a tape. "Here's the recording from the radio station you requested." He gave her the tape and their hands touched briefly.
"That didn't take long," she said.
"No, it didn't. I asked Jason to help me with the understanding he was to keep his mouth shut about this," Walter replied. Nikita stared at the tape in her hands. "Well, I'd better get back to work. I'll see you later."
Nikita bearly heard him or realized he had left her alone. She finally looked up and when she saw she was alone, she darkened the Perch before placing the tape into the player. She heard the message "From M to N" and she wondered if it was from Michael to her. It seemed too coincidental besides the fact Michael didn't like or even listened to country music.
How do I get through one night without you
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be
Oh and I, I need you in my arms
Need you to hold
You're my world, my heart, my soul
If you ever leave
Baby you'd take away everything good in
my life
This time Nikita let her tears flow freely as she knew the words were true. . .
Without you there'd be no sun in my sky
There would be no love in my life
There'd be no world left for me
And I, baby I don't know what I would do
I'd be lost if I lost you
If you ever leave
Baby, you would take away everything real
in my life
And tell me now
How do I live without you
Without you baby?
