Forget the whole Michelle subplot, Jason was the B-story character I would most like to have seen explored in the series. But even if TPTB had tried, I don't think they could have come close to what you accomplished here. You have a gift for characterization, and you blend it well with a talent for vivid, rich prose. There was one description, of a scene between Walter and Phillipe, that particularly grabbed me: I think it made Walter 'a pale gecko in the shadow of a looming wall' (not verbatim, but it stuck in my memory). I loved that. Also, the way Jason described his internal suffering with such physical imagery (entrails hanging out, organs being squished). I was feeling it right there with him. And I especially appreciated the chance to "say goodbye" to Birkoff, while getting to know Jason at the same time. Here, I could certainly tell the difference between the two brothers, and not because of a set of glasses or a creative, ahem, accent. I could go on...lol. Suffice to say that in the future, if you write it, I'll read it.
