For you to hold me at night?

To stand by my side as I mourned
The loss of my friend?

Was it too much to ask
That you keep your promise
That nothing could tear us apart?

Was it too much to ask
That you honor and respect me
Enough to tell the truth?

Was it too much to ask
That I except your lies
Your indiscretions?

Was it too much to ask
That you give something
Of yourself for all I sacrificed?

Was it too much to ask
That I lie for you and hide
From the truth that hurt us in the end?

Was it too much to ask
That I bend and not break
That I not allow a torn heart to grieve?

Was it too much to ask
That our love be enough
For you to forgive me for being myself?
