Even though I don't totally agree with the way JonBenet was portrayed in the pageants, no one can say that she was forced to participate in the pageants. A lot of little girls enjoy dressing up and putting on make-up. How many women out there can honestly say that they didn't play dress up when they were little? There are MILLIONS of girls out there that participate in those pageants all the time and nobody is saying anything about their parents. Maybe the Ramsey's didn't make the best parenting choices all of the time, but no one does. Pageants are a very big part of the southern lifestyle and it isn't our place to decide if Jonbenet wanted to be in the pageants or if Patsy forced her. A lot of good comes out of beauty pageants such as scholarships, friendships, confidence, etc. I know that I enjoyed participating in beauty pageants when I was younger and so did many of my friends. There is nothing illegal about trying to socialize your daughter in the beauty pageant scene. Beauty pageants have been around for a long time and if you feel that there is something wrong with the way the girls are dressed up, then maybe instead of griping about it on the internet, you should try contacting the pageants committees and trying to get the guidelines changed so that makeup should be kept minimal or whatever your particular gripe is. I am not trying to say that pageants are perfect, only that they have been around for a long time and many people support them. Maybe you should just try to see the good aspects of beauty pageants. Then you might realize that the good far outweighs the bad.
