JonBenet was exploited in both life and death - whatever the facts of the case are - and I think intelligent reading of the evidence points in one very clear direction - this was a child who was treated as a doll. Being dressed up as a proto-sexual adult at the age of six - poor, poor child was clearly one of the many American young girls who are victims of a society which has no idea of how to understand childhood, a society which believes that girls are most valued by their beauty, an adult kind of beauty at that. As a reader, it seems extraordinary that so few people in your country notice the obscene images of this young child dressed up in make-up, heels, glitter - showgirl costumes. These are not images which come from a family where a child is loved and valued for who she is, without being forced to represent some ideal of attainment for the deluded parents. The fact is that someone who sees a child as their property in this way is unlikely to know when to stop, or how to understand that the child is a separate being, with thoughts and wishes which differ from the adults. This thinking about children is the kind of thinking which leads to the brutal killing of them. Please, stop painting children as pretty little sexy dolls.
