April 30th Ceilidh mackay (has int & open prem - runs all day)
May 25/26 Burdekin Eisteddfod (never been there - breeda is judge)
June 10/11 NQ Premierships - Mackay.(this is probably the biggest comp)
July 9th Munro - Mackay (split into beg/prim in morning & int/open in afternoon - has open premierships)
September holidays Townsville Eisteddfod(never been there)
October 22/23rd Irish Mackay Eisteddfod (kate hartley is judge)

In 2007, all dancers dancing in beginner grade for the 1st time may only wear a team costume, plain basic dress or skirt and top.
In 2007 existing competing beginners can continue to wear their current costume.
The IDC rule regarding make up and leg tan for beginners be followed, but no wigs be permitted in beginner grade.
For further clarification of this rule and how it affects your child, please speak to your teacher.

I think the author meant that Holly came 8th in the jig. There is no step about jig it is a step about reel and that was only 5 places. Holly must have danced extremely well and was given 8th place in the jig (which they gave individual places for including 8th place) as well as overall winners who were recalled. Holly in fact could of came 8th in the jig but not been recalled that's how the WS works and that's irish dancing for you! You got to love it! Well done Holly.
congratulations to the munro studio on their competition! the venue was great, the comp ran on time (& ahead!!!), the entry price & the cost of the program were the cheapest i've seen in a long time & i loved the music! can't wait til next year!

what do you all think of comps starting on sat nights with ceili dancing &/or some premierships?i've noticed lately that some comps really drag out as you may do a premiership in the morning, ceili at lunch, then your section dancing in the afternoon. it really tires me & lots of others out, what are the chances of this maybe happening?
we are moving to Mackay at the end of the year I would like to know how many schools are in Mackay and what is the best school to attend or doesit depend what part u live in

firstly, ask your current teacher their opinion.
there are 3 ID schools in mackay. each school is very different in technique, style & size of classes.
ceilidh (janelle agius)
international dance affair (sandra danastas)
kay munro studio (kay munro)
mackay is pretty small, so distance to travel doesn't really come into it.
what are ur child's ambitions? do they dance mostly for fun, or do they have aspirations to dance at state/national/world level? that will impact on what school you choose.
i could give u my opinon on what school i think is the best & many reasons why, however i am involved with a mackay school so i am trying not to be influential.

at the state this year, go see children who attend the schools mentioned above,
IDA competed at state & national level last year.
munro competed at state & national level last year & world level this year
It depends on the year , between 6-7 we go to Bris twice a year and for the May Feis and The States, North QLD and then some smaller comps during the year, and some of us go to the nationals depaends how good you are

I read alot of snide remarks on this board abotu dancers attending the world. If any of you ever get the opportunity to travel to the World I suggest you do it. Aussie dancers (even our National Champions) attend without any expectations. Only 1 in each 3 dancers recall and the World has the best of the best. Dancers from the UK, Ireland and NA who would easily win our Nationals sometimes don't qualify to dance at the World as their Regional Qualifiers are so tough. To go and see the standard of dancing is a reward in itself. Encourage your NQ qualifiers as they will bring home a "WORLD OF EXPERIENCE"

i understand its tough if a town only has 1 studio - u don't have much choice, but surely one of the other 6 or so schools in the north can cater for you. wouldn't it be cheaper? i think some of the schools in the north compare very well to the SEQ schools & do well against them in championships
what is your eisteddfod like? i saw the schedule & the age groups listed for beg's are 10 & u, 11 & o!!! is that right? also, when is the ballet etc normally on? is it in the holidays or before

I don't know what you are trying to say and who you are but maybe you should look up the last few years results from both NQ, QLD State and Nationals and you will see if you are referring to Kaylene that she has qualified many times to represent NQ and OZ at world level. And if you are an NQ dancer you should be proud to have a fellow dancer achieve such high results, especially coming from such a remote area for Irish Dancing in Australia. Do us proud Kaylene!!!!
that all depends on what you think makes a school 'the best school'. everyone will think their school is the best, maybe because their teacher is really nice, because they have great parental or community support or because they have made great friends at dancing. some people dance for fun, some wish to achieve their best. look at what NQ schools compete at the state & nationals & how many students get actually get placed. look at what studio's compete at the world championships. maybe when people answer this question they could list WHY they like their school so much. makes the question seem less 'who's the best'! :)

A week-long summer camp for aspiring students of Irish dance, our primary focus is to bring Irish dancers from around the world together in a non-competitive atmosphere to share their love of Irish dance and culture. Hey all! Just got back from the NQ Irish Dance Premierships in Townsville and had a great time. It was a great venue (large, practical) but did anyone else have a problem with the stages. Stage "A" was apparantly really slippery and stage "B" was too tiny for open dancers (maybe begginers/primary should have been the only ones to dance on it). Appart from that - I thought it was a really enjoyable competition. What does everyone else think?
