First of all... the messiah was not foretold to handle Israel's political problems... this a very poor misinterpretation at the very least... According to the Dead Sea Scrolls (and many other theological sources) which are studied by Jewish and Christian scholars the world round, the messiah's purpose is to rid the world of conflict, and to bring peace to the world... Also, at the coming of the messiah, all Jews are said to return to the land of Israel... So, I would say that Jesus did not fulfill these requirements... second... yes it has been over 2000 years since the messiah was "prophecized" to come, but who are we to say that these 2000 years are not but a millisecond in the grand scheme of things... the messiah is said to be a being above worldly constraints and thus why should the coming of the messiah have to be held within worldly time? Personally, I think Jesus was a good guy; he was a Rabbi. He had followers like all other Rabbi's of the time. As a devout Jew, I do not doubt Jesus' theological representation to those who choose to follow his studyings. Because he was a rabbi, and nothing more.
