From The Dark Age:

GILES
I was twenty-one, studying history at Oxford. And, of course, the occult by night. I hated it. The tedious grind of study, the... overwhelming pressure of my destiny. I dropped out, I went to London... (Exhales) I fell in with the worst crowd that would have me. We practiced magicks. Small stuff for pleasure or gain. And Ethan and I discovered something... bigger.

BUFFY
Eyghon.

GILES
Yes. One of us would, um... go into a deep sleep, and the others would, h, summon him. It was an extraordinary high! (Smiles nervously) God, we were fools.

BUFFY
You couldn't control it.

GILES
One of us, Randall, he lost control. Eyghon took him whole. We tried to exorcise the demon from Randall, but it killed him. No. We killed him. We thought we were free of the demon after that. But now he's back. And one by one, he will kill us all.

From Blast from the Past:

RIPPER
Hey, you leave her alone!

The vamps turn to face him as he begins to run into the fray, but the distraction caused by Ripper gives Katie time to react. She flip-kicks the vampire in front of her and pulls herself out of the grip of the others. She pulls a stake from behind her and backs and stakes one in the heart. He explodes into dust as she begins fighting the others. Ripper looks on in amazement.

VAMPIRE
Slayer!

RIPPER
(To himself)
She�s a slayer...?

KATIE
Ripper, I could use a little help here!

RIPPER
No, I can�t be here. It�s not.... That�s not who I am anymore!

KATIE
What are you talking about? Don�t just stand their watchi...

She�s cut-off as the vampires hold her still again, their leader coming in for the kill. He�s tall, a Mohawk running over his head. Ripper notices two of his fingers are missing as he grabs her throat.

RIPPER
Not a watcher... I don�t have to...

KATIE
RIPPER!!

RIPPER
I can�t... not my destiny... This isn�t....

You can hear a bell and the camera zooms to show Buffy.
Who without hesitation gets up and returns to the library.

BUFFY
Ok, Giles I want to hear the rest of this story.

GILES
You sure you want to hear it?

CUT TO:

INT. ROOM - NIGHT

Ripper stares down at the lifeless body of Randall, with Eyghon purged from his body he looks just like he did before.

RIPPER
Oh God... What, what did we do?

ETHAN
What did you do, you mean.

RIPPER
We can�t keep this secret, we can�t... Does he have parents, I mean, what... We have to tell somebody.

ETHAN
Hey! Calm down. If we hadn�t done that, who knows what would have happened. You probably just saved a lot of lives.

RIPPER
But Randall is dead! This is murder

ETHAN
He was weak! And now there�s no way of bringing him back. We have to stick together on this, the group has always been strong. We�ll find Deirdre and Phillip and... We�ll work something out.

RIPPER
This was never how I wanted things, I... I can�t do this any more. I want out.

ETHAN
Out? For what? To go join the council like daddy wanted? What would you do without the group? You don�t know how to be anything else any more.

RIPPER
I�m out Ethan.

ETHAN
Out? No, no, there is no out. The group is strong. You�re in too deep to leave.

RIPPER
You gonna stop me Ethan?

ETHAN
If I have to.

RIPPER
We don�t have to do this.

ETHAN
Oh no. I think we do. I�ve been waiting for this a long time Rupert.
(chanting)
All the seas are black,
We have made a pack,
You broke you end of deal,
Now your stuck in that place like stealing.
Ripper realises he can�t move.

RIPPER
Ethan, you don�t want to fight me. You and I both know you�re strong now but I�m stronger.

ETHAN
I made you! You wouldn�t have anything if it weren�t for me. You have no idea what power is.

RIPPER
Ten minutes ago you would have gladly had me out of this group, and never seen me again. Now you�re willing to fight to keep me here?

ETHAN
We�ve lost Randall. Things have to change, I accept it. We just need to keep things together.

Ethan throws Ripper across the room into a wall, bringing it crashing down. Ripper walks back through, cut up.

RIPPER
Ok, now I�m pissed off.

Ripper fires a bolt of blue energy at Ethan who deflects it away with ease.

ETHAN
You�ve got to try harder than that.

Ethan spits out a glob of green energy at Ripper.

RIPPER
CONTEGO!

A green shield appears before Ripper and absorbs the glob.

Ripper runs forward and punches Ethan in the face sending him to the floor.

ETHAN
(hurt)
Morsus...

Ripper falls back gripping his throat and Ethan gets up and kicks him in the gut.
As he goes for the second hit Ripper grabs his leg and forces him to the floor, Ripper gets up.

RIPPER
Compleo!

Ripper kicks Ethan hard, sending him flying through another wall. The building shakes unstably.

Ethan struggles back in clutching his ribs. Ripper too, is hurt.

RIPPER
Ethan....

ETHAN
Eviscero...

Ripper grabs his stomach and screams in pain. Ethan looks triumphant and walks over to Ripper. His eyes close, unconscious. Ethan spits on him.
Ripper�s eyes open again, they�re black. He magically rises upright, chanting.

ETHAN
Now Ripper... You know I�d never... I mean, come on... Please....

RIPPER
Cuspis.

Ethan goes flying backward into a third wall. Ripper runs up to him and starts beating on him like there�s no tomorrow, Ethan falls to the ground and Ripper hits straight through the wall. With two walls already gone this is enough to start the building crashing down around them. Ripper�s eyes return to normal as he looks down to Ethan. He starts to run, but comes back, helps Ethan to his feet and they run through one of the open walls.

CUT TO:

INT. BAR � NIGHT

The bar is closed, Ethan and Ripper run through and out the door.

CUT TO:

EXT. BAR � NIGHT

Rain pours from the sky, Ethan and Ripper get out of the building and turn just in time to see it collapse before them. Ethan looks over to Ripper, both of them cut up and bruised.

RIPPER
We done?

ETHAN
Oh yeah. You could have left me... why?

Ethan just smiles�he thinks he knows the answer

RIPPER
Randall was unavoidable, if I�d let you die... things would have changed. I couldn�t.... I�m out Ethan.

ETHAN
There is no out! We made a pact remember?

RIPPER
Bloody hell Ethan! Face it, you can�t control me any more. It�s over. Find Deidre and Phillip, let them talk some sense into you.

ETHAN
One week, to change your mind Rupert. One week.

RIPPER
Give it a rest Ethan.

He kicks Ethan in the face, knocking him out.

CUT TO:

EXT. RIPPER�S APARTMENT � NIGHT

The apartment is a mess, the bass guitar and amp he stole takes pride of place by the wall. Ripper walks in, soaking wet. He sits on the bed and holds his head in his hands, when he moves them he sees the telephone and he walks over and picks it up. He dials and a woman answers.

WOMAN
Giles residence, who�s calling please?

Ripper can�t speak, too many memories. It�s his mother.

WOMAN
Hello? Is there anyone there?

WOMAN
Rupert...?

Ripper slams the phone down and starts smashing everything in his apartment. Finally he picks up the bass guitar and smashes it into the amp. He screams with rage and electricity crackles around his fingers. He clenches them into fists and they stop. He collapses on the bed.

CUT TO:

INT. DEMON BAR � NIGHT

Ethan, Phillip and Deidre are talking. They seem to be getting on fine. Ripper walks over to them.

ETHAN
Ripper! I was just telling everyone what happened, how we worked together to stop Eyghon. We were a great team! So I was holding him right, and Ripper goes over to him and is all �come on Randall, snap out of it....�

RIPPER
That�s enough Ethan. No more lies. We murdered Randall. There�s nothing we can say to change that. They deserve the truth. The least you can do is tell them it for once� If you don�t then I will�

He takes a deep breath, Ethan looks terrified.

RIPPER
I�m not who you think I am, how could I be? Even I don�t know who I am any more. Ethan and me, we�re not friends. Never have been. Stopping Eyghon meant killing Randall, however you want to dress it up. And I�m sorry, but I can�t do this any more.

ETHAN
..... He�s... joking. Tell them you�re joking Ripper. Please.

RIPPER
It�s not a joke, and for the first time, it�s not a lie. It�s over Ethan.

ETHAN
(To the others)
We don�t need him, we were fine before that. Look, we�ll move again. America. We�ll go, to America, and we�ll start again. Like the old days yeah? We don�t need him. I know, I�ll find another member...

Deidre and Phillip look at each other, unsure of what to do. They�re about to talk when someone taps Ripper on the shoulder. It�s a vampire, and about five others.

RIPPER
Yeah?

VAMPIRE
You don�t belong here.

RIPPER
Don�t you have innocents to kill?

The group gets up.

VAMPIRE
Not you guys, you can stay. The watcher has to go though.

Every demon and thing in the bar turns to look at Ripper.

RIPPER
I�m not a watcher.

VAMPIRE
You smell like one... it�s that old book smell I think.

The vampires laugh.

ETHAN
Lets just go, lets try not piss off every demon on this hemisphere.

RIPPER
Good idea.

They push their way between the vampires and leave.

CUT TO:

EXT. DEMON BAR, ALLEY - NIGHT

The vampire group who was inside are now outside. There are more vampire blocking the exits.

VAMPIRE
Where do you think your going watcher?

RIPPER
Away.

VAMPIRE
You help slay my kind. You really think we�ll let you leave here alive? You others are free to go.

RIPPER
How many do you count?

ETHAN
I�ve got 20, that�s 5 to 1 odds, I say we�re nuts if we stand here and fight it.

RIPPER
So any suggestions?

ETHAN
Yeah we burst threw that side and cast a barrier spell.

RIPPER
(to Deidre)
You cast the barrier spell, I�ll break through the vampires.

Electricity crackles from his fingers and shoots into the vamps blocking one side of the alley

ETHAN
What the hell was that?

RIPPER
I don�t know I...

Deidre runs through the gap and begins chanting, the others follow her. A barrier is erected over the alley. Ripper, Ethan and Phillip pass through but the vampires are stopped dead.

ETHAN
See how well we work together? Why would you want to give this up?

PHILLIP
Oh give it up Ethan! It�s over. We�d be best to cut out cards and split.

ETHAN
No, it�s... I�m incharge I decide when it�s over.

RIPPER
Ethan, it�s over. Face it. Everyone but you sees this.

Ethan backs away.

ETHAN
You�ll all pay for this. If it is the last thing I do, you all will pay for this�

He runs off, the three who remain share a slight smile and walk off in separate directions.

CUT TO:

INT. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL, LIBRARY � DAY

GILES
I never saw Deidre or Phillip alive after that. I never knew what happened to them. Shame to, they were really good friends of mine.

BUFFY
Well they got here to find you, they can�t have been homeless or anything. I mean airplane tickets from England are a lot�

GILES
Yes, I don�t know if that makes me feel better or worse really. The next couple of days were almost a blur, until they found me.

BUFFY
The vampires?

GILES
Ever worse, The watchers.

CUT TO:

INT. RIPPER�S APARTMENT � NIGHT

Ripper walks into the apartment, the lights are out and it�s almost pitch black in there. He flicks the light switch but the lights don�t come on. A torch light hits Ripper in the face and he shields his eyes.

RIPPER
Who�s there?

The beam of light moves from Ripper�s eyes and he makes out a face in the darkness. It�s a young QUENTIN TRAVERS.

QUENTIN
You must be Mr. Giles. I�ve been hearing so much about you.

RIPPER
Who�s asking? What do you want? And is it good?

QUENTIN
Quentin Travers. And I need your help. Most of it isn�t very flatering. Or more accurately, I think we can help each other.

RIPPER
What are you talking about?

QUENTIN
I am a representative of the council of watchers. You were seeing my slayer before she died. You know who did it, I can help you find the one who killed her. We can punish him together�

RIPPER
I�m not a watcher, I don�t have to do what you tell me. Besides you look like the devil and I don�t make deals with him�

QUENTIN
I�m not telling you to do anything, merely offering help if you want it. I have resources you don�t, but without knowing anything about the one who killed her I�m lost. I�ll leave my card, in case you change your mind. Or have sudden change of heart.

He leaves, alone in the dark, Ripper goes to bed.

CUT TO:

EXT. BACK ALLEY � NIGHT

Ripper dreams of Katie�s death, the scene played out like it did before until Ripper runs into the fray, saving Katie. The lead vampire comes at Ripper and grabs him round the neck, for a split second you can see his ear is gone before his black hair falls over the place where it should be. Katie runs to help him but it�s too late and the vamp sinks his teeth into him.

CUT TO:

INT. RIPPER�S APARTMENT � DAY

Ripper wakes, red electrical energy flowing around his entire body.

RIPPER
What the...

The energy balls in his hands and then re-spreads over his whole body and disappears.

RIPPER
What is that?

CUT TO:

INT. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL, LIBRARY � DAY

GILES
The dreams had been happening for a while, but I�d never woke up like that. Something was happening to me, and I didn�t know what it was. I needed answers, and I wanted to avenge Katie if I could. I went to Quentin.

BUFFY
There weren�t any other libraries you could have gone to?

GILES
The occult wasn�t looked upon in the same way as it is now Buffy. Magic shops barely existed, and town libraries just didn�t carry the kind of books I needed. Nowadays you can find out whatever you want by turning on that stupid box.

BUFFY
Computers?

GILES
Well, yes. But I was thinking more along the lines of the, uh, Discovery Channel.
(continuing)
Quentin got me into the Council�s library. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. There were so many books... You should have seen it.

BUFFY
(almost mocking)
Sounds great.

GILES
Yes it was... I set about looking for the vampire that attacked Katie.

CUT TO:

INT. COUNCIL LIBRARY � DAY

Ripper searches through stacks of books, he�s obviously not used to doing research, but he seems engrossed in it. Eventually he puts the book he�s reading down and walks over to a section labelled �Watcher�s Diaries�

GILES (V.O)
I read for hours, I didn�t really know what I was doing, what I was looking for. There were so many books, you would have needed more than one lifetime to read them all. Eventually I found something worth reading.

RIPPER (reading)

Being told of one�s watcher destiny is hard. Often the young can�t cope, they rebel against it. However, fate has a peculiar sense of humour and they always end up where they belong. But youth means ignorance, and it�s impossible to tell them though we try. My grandson Quentin has never understood. Instead of studying, he�d rather play with the pigs on the family farm.

Ripper closes the book, the name �Walter Travers� is written on the front.

CUT TO:

INT. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL � DAY

GILES
There it was, in black and white. There was nothing I could have done. If I was meant to be a watcher there was nothing I could do to change it.

BUFFY
Because it was never prophesied that I might die or anything...

GILES
But you did Buffy, prophecies are cryptic but they�re always right... mostly right.

BUFFY
Another reason we�re similar.

Giles smiles slightly.

GILES
I had always looked on being a watcher as my life being spelled out, everything was already set for me... I spent a year trying to avoid it, but there I was in the library, doing the research. Being a watcher, without any of the benefits.

BUFFY
If it didn�t work out, you could�ve hung out with the pigs.

Giles lets out a little laugh.

GILES
That was quite funny. To bad I was the only one to have found it, luckily Quentin never did.

GILES
I went further back in the diaries until I found a reference in the 1800�s to a vampire. He lost one of his ears in a battle with a slayer whom he killed. His name was Prong.

BUFFY
Prong?? And I thought Spike was bad.

GILES
Buffy...

BUFFY
Sorry...

GILES
Prong, wasn�t much in his day, He was put incharge by a master vampire who had united europes demon and vampire population left for America. Prong being wise and seeing he�ll never be as powerful never left his clan. They were relatively harmless, never leaving London they lost all there contact with other clans and soon became laughed upon, but the opportunity to kill a slayer to become a leader again, is not only enough to bring out the most horrible things in vampires, but also enough to bring out the vampires themselves. I was going to stop him, or them, if they were willing to fight for him.

BUFFY
Oh so you decided to be slay happy?

GILES
Not exactly

BUFFY
So what did you do?

GILES
Well, I couldn�t go to the council for help. Their definition of help differs greatly from most, rational, peoples. They made a rule in about the 1600�s that prohibited them from fighting themselves, made it so the slayer was the only weapon.

BUFFY
What about that Quentin guy, he could have helped.

GILES
Quentin wanted revenge, but what could he do? The council aren�t fighters. Quentin was suppose to change that but after his slayer died, he made it a law for watchers to be pretty distant from there slayers. This relationship of ours, it shioned upon by many. Plus I didn�t want to get someone else killed because of my mistakes.

CUT TO:

INT. RIPPER�S APARTMENT � DAY

Ripper searches through the mess of his room, picking up broken wood pieces, holy water, a cross and crossbow. Picking up his leather jacket he walks out into the sunshine.

CUT TO:

INT. DEMON BAR � DAY

Ripper walks up to the bar, it�s not open but a human-looking GUY is cleaning.

GUY
We�re closed.

RIPPER
I don�t want a drink. I�m looking for Prong.

GUY
Is that some kind of slang or...

RIPPER
(frustrated)
Vampire, runs his own clan somewhere in London.

GUY
Vampires? Like make believe vampires? You feeling alright, you sure you haven�t had anything to drink?

Ripper walks over to the bar and reaches over, pulling a bottle of blood out. Ripper looks on expectantly.

GUY
Ok, you got me. We don�t get vampires in here much though, not much for socialising with other demons. Apparently someone owes some demon�s quite a sum of kittens. Sorry friend.

Ripper turns, as if to walk away but turns back, pulling out holy water and splashing it on the guy�s face. It begins to smoke and he vamps out.
Ripper quickly has a stake to his heart and a cross by his face.

RIPPER
No vampires huh? Talk, quickly. He killed a slayer not long ago, local girl.

GUY
Yeah okay, okay. I heard about that but I�ve never met the guy honest. You want to try hitting the hotels, I hear they�ve got a nest in there. That�s all I know, I swear.

RIPPER
If you�re lying to me... I�ll use your remains to hold a new flower�

GUY
I swear on my mother�s grave, where I put her by the way, that�s all I know.

RIPPER
I�ll be back if you�re lying.

He lowers the cross and stake and turns to walk away, the vampire motions to bite him but Ripper turns and stakes him effortlessly and keeps on walking.

CUT TO:

Montage of shots, Ripper questioning hotel staff, fighting with vamps both magically and with his fists.

GILES (V.O)
It was hard to find him, he moves around so much. I fought dozens of vampires, I felt stronger than I had ever done in my life, it was almost easy. It wasn�t a very fast process by any means, leads were slim if any. The experience for everything and the thought of revenge made it worth it.

Ripper walks down a side alley, checking out the building.

RIPPER
This looks like the place.

He walks to a small door and kicks it in.

CUT TO:

INT. DARK ROOM � NIGHT

Five vamps sit around playing cards. Prong is one of them.

VAMPIRE 1
What are you doing here?

PRONG
Don�t just sit here get him, he�ll make a nice snack�

RIPPER
(To himself)
Bloody Brilliant.

Giles V.O.:
I didn�t know what I was up against, but it felt right.

The first vampire jumps up and goes to attack Ripper. He pulls out a stake and plunges it into the vampire. By this time the other 3 have gotten up and they�re closing in on Ripper, growling and vamping out�

GILES (V.O)
This was the scariest moment of my life�

He steps up to the first vamp who throws a punch at him. He ducks it and pushes him against the wall, as the second one steps up. Giles kicks him. The third one hesitates and gets a stake to heart for his trouble.

GILES (V.O)
Until I moved here, this was cakewalk compared to Sunnydale and the hellmouth.

He turns back around to have vampire 2 coming at him, he sides steps tripping him, He begins to chant� and his hands have green light coming from them. He continues to cast the spell and the light goes from his hand to the vampire. The vampire catches on fire and burst into dust. Giles continues walking over to the one he pushed against the wall and just hits him a couple more times for good measure before plunging the stake in his heart.

PRONG
Who are you?

RIPPER
The name�s Ripper.

PRONG
Well Ripper, this is it?

RIPPER
You were expecting what, a cuppa tea??

PRONG
Don�t know, didn�t think the council sent assassins� Or even had them for that measure.

RIPPER
Not an assassin, this is personal�

PRONG
So you�re not with the Order of Taraka? Or are you hear to collect the kittens? Because I promise to have them this week�

RIPPER
Nope, you killed my... a girl, my age.

PRONG
I�ve killed many, enlighten me further.

RIPPER
She was a slayer, you know one that you�re against. Unless your to stupid to understand who your opposition is.

PRONG
And you what? want to me to apologize? Remember I�m against them, you can�t really expect me to give them a cuppa tea.

RIPPER
Not really I don�t from an animal like you, all I want you is for you to die.

With that Ripper charges him, Prong can�t do much and is tackled to the ground. Ripper proceeds to just rain down punches on Prong. Prong covers up as much as he can. Ripper�s eyes get pure black. Prong manages to kick Ripper off of him.

PRONG

What is your MALFUNCTION?

RIPPER
I�m a watcher, she was a slayer. It was my responsibility to help her.
(Said as he gets up)
What do you think I�ll shake hands and buy you a drink?
(He tightens the grip on the stake)

PRONG
That would be nice, I could really use one of them. Scotch maybe

Ripper screams and charges only to be thrown against the wall knocking the stake out of his hand. Prong punches him doubling over Ripper.

PRONG
That all you got?
Guess I won�t be getting my scotch anytime soon.

Prong continues to kick and punch Ripper viciously, with no regard to anyone, or thing.

PRONG
Why do you keep trying to fight back? You don�t have what it takes�
Hello I�m the master vampire around here.

RIPPER
Shut Up!

Ripper pushes Prong away from him, his eyes go black. Red electricity grows around Ripper and he begins to float. It passes straight through him, creating a shield around him.

PRONG
Look man, I�m...

Before he can say the rest he is thrown to wall and spread like he was on a crucifix. Prong shirt opens to reveal the chest, the vampire looks scared to sh*t. Electricity shoots from Ripper into Prong and he turns to dust.
Ripper falls to the floor, drained.

RIPPER
What the hell is going on.... It�s him, he did something to me.

CUT TO:

INT. RACK�S PLACE � NIGHT

Ripper walks into the waiting room, which is now completely trashed. A big fight has obviously taken place here. Ripper walks through the next door into the Main Room.

INT. RACK�S PLACE, MAIN ROOM � NIGHT

Rack is sitting in a corner, part of the woman healer�s body lies on the floor, the rest is missing.

RIPPER
What the hell did you do to me?

RACK
I told you you weren�t ready.

Ripper�s fingers crackle with red electricity.

RIPPER
Eyghon is dead, We... I killed him.

RACK
You sure about that?

CUT TO:

INT. ROOM � NIGHT

It�s the Ethan/Ripper duel.

ETHAN
Eviscero...

Ripper grabs his stomach and screams in pain. Ethan looks triumphant and walks over to Ripper. His eyes close, unconscious. As he lies there his finger twitches, he�s been infected by Eyghon.

CUT TO:

INT. RACK�S PLACE, MAIN ROOM � NIGHT

RACK
Eyghon takes possession of the dead and unconscious, he was all but destroyed when your friend died, but you were out long enough for what was left to jump into you.

RACK
What? You thought you killed all those vampires yourself? Eyghon�s spirit is gone, but enough of the power was left to give you a little boost. He�s getting stronger though, you feel it don�t you?

Ripper nods.

RACK
And if you don�t get it out of you soon, he�s only going to get stronger. I could take it if you... For a small price�

RIPPER
No! I�ve given you enough. I can take care of this. I can take care of anything�

Rack just grins and closes his eyes as ripper turns around and walks away.

CUT TO:

INT. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL, LIBRARY � DAY

GILES
I was, infected, with Eyghon�s power. There wasn�t enough for him to take over completely, but the power was growing, I had to find a way to get rid of it. I had no other choice, I needed help. I went to Ethan.

CUT TO:

INT. DEMON BAR � DAY

Ethan is sitting at a table on his own in the dark, he�s obviously not slept in days, his clothes are dishevelled and he�s not shaved. He�s at the end of his rope. Lethe�s bramble and other assorted magical ingredients are littered on the table. Ripper walks up to him, he has gloves over his hands.

ETHAN
Get out of here Rupert.

RIPPER
What happened?

ETHAN
I couldn�t make it work, on my own I�m...

RIPPER
The group would never have lasted Ethan. You had to realise that. To many agenda�s non the same, the only thing that kept us going that long was casting�

ETHAN
Eventually... in a way I hated them, we never liked each other. I needed them. Needed you. They needed me, needed you�

RIPPER
Come on mate...

ETHAN
Don�t �mate� me, we dropped the pretence remember. You want nothing to do with me, none of you do. So I decided I�m better off without you all� so GET OUT!!!

RIPPER
That�s not... well actually that is true but, I need your help Ethan.

ETHAN
What?

Ripper removes his gloves to show the electrical crackle between his fingers.

RIPPER
I was infected, by Eyghon.

ETHAN
What? How?

RIPPER
It�s... it�s not important how, but I need it out and I need your help to do it.

ETHAN
Why should I help you?

RIPPER
Because I�m asking, for old time�s sake.

ETHAN
What old times? There�s....

Ethan stops suddenly, a thought entering his mind.

ETHAN
Alright. I�ll help, what do you need me to do?

CUT TO:

INT. DARK ROOM � NIGHT

Ripper and Ethan are casting a spell, Ripper is wearing a sleeveless top, exposing the Mark of Eyghon. Everything is silent apart from Giles� voiceover.

GILES (V.O)
It was stupid. I should have known Ethan had something up his sleeve, but I had no other choice. I mean he was to volenteery, he never wanted to help me, now that I looked back I couldn�t help but wonder why he would�ve in my time in need.

The mark begins to glow red and electrical sparks come out of it and begin to ball between the two of them.

RIPPER
This wasn�t... What�s going on?

ETHAN
It�s working, it�s fine.

RIPPER
This isn�t right!

The ball of red electricity becomes almost solid and the face of Eyghon begins to appear in it. The face appears to scream as it is split into four smaller balls. One shoots back into Ripper, one into Ethan and the other two disappear. Ethan smiles.

RIPPER
What did you do Ethan?

ETHAN
I split the power, we�re joined now Ripper. The group, we�ve all got a bit inside us now. We can�t split up now.

Ethan smiles, almost manically.

RIPPER
Ethan?

ETHAN
What?

RIPPER
Grow up. These childish games didn�t help keep us together. If nothing else they make us want to stay apart.

He gets up and punches Ethan, sending him to the floor.

RIPPER
You can�t control everything. Embrace the chaos.

ETHAN
Chaos..?

Ethan collapses, unconscious. Ripper walks out.

CUT TO:

INT. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL, LIBRARY � DAY

GILES
I didn�t see Ethan for another thirty years after that. I always thought Eyghon would find a way back, but I knew he�d find a way back. You can�t bury the past.

BUFFY
So what? You went back to university?

GILES
I did the only thing I could do, I had no money and nothing left. I called my father. He... he managed to get me back into Oxford, Council influence and all that.

CUT TO:

EXT. OXFORD UNIVERSITY, WADHAM COLLEGE � DAY

CAPTION � ONE YEAR LATER

Students wander around the quad, as the crowd breaks a poster becomes apparent on the wall. It reads �TONIGHT ONLY � EMULSION, LIVE AT THE KINGS ARMS. A picture shows the band, Ripper is playing the bass on the edge of the photo. Zoom into the picture and

CUT TO:

INT. KINGS ARMS PUB � NIGHT

The band are just finishing their set and Ripper jumps off the stage and goes to the bar. He sits down and gets a drink. Olivia comes up to him and sits down next to him.

OLIVIA
Hi.

RIPPER
Hi.

OLIVIA
You guys were really great up there.

RIPPER
Thanks

OLIVIA
I�m Olivia... if you were wondering. You�re Ripper right?

Ripper turns to her and smiles.

OLIVIA
Why do they call you that?

CUT TO:

INT. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL, LIBRARY � DAY

GILES
And that�s it, that�s everything... more or less.

BUFFY
Wow.

GILES
I know you probably don�t want to talk to me right now, I�ll understand completely if you want to leave.

BUFFY
Giles I...

The library doors burst open and XANDER and WILLOW walk through.

XANDER
Have you seen this?

BUFFY
What?

XANDER
They�re giving us some test to see what we�re going to do with the rest of our lives... Some of us don�t even know what we�re doing right now.

WILLOW
It�s all about shrubs.

BUFFY
Shrubs?

WILLOW
It�s a thing.

Buffy nods, kinda confused.

WILLOW
So what�s going on here, you both look pretty serious.

BUFFY
No,

She looks over to Giles

BUFFY
Nothing serious.

They share a smile and Xander hands Buffy one of the forms. They chatter until the credits roll.
