Yes, you need to make sure you get your name on the (correct) list when you arrive. To do this look out for a steward - red (smart) jacket, or a grey overcoat with red facings (lapel + cuffs), although they probably won't be about very early, in which case you will probably need to go to the security desk just inside the artists' entrance (to the right of the south porch). It's probably best to ask people who have arrived before you (if any) what they've done, as I say make sure you are on the "hopefuls" list, not the "ticketholders". There is no dress code, so trainers are perfectly acceptable, be aware that there is a tradition of dressing fro the Last Night, so there will be anumber of people around in dinner suits (ie tuxedos) for the men and ball dresses for women. There will equally be a large number who aren't though.

So far as what happens during the day goes, I think that the hopefuls queue normally stays a bit more intact. A large number of ticketholders will disappear after the 10am roll-call, and re-appear during the early afternoon.
