On a more serious note, a quote from "The Henry Wood Proms" by David Cox (published by the BBC in 1980):

"Today, during every P{roms season, a foutain is a traditional feature of the concerts, situated in the arena of the Royal Albert Hall, just as it always was at Queen's Hall. Ornamental, and suggesting cooling streams in summer, the foutain is also symbolically a link with the al fresco forerunners of the Proms; music among the beauties of nature heard by promenading audiences at London's pleasure gardens..."
