You are correct about the break after Jack the Lad (also know as the Sailors' Hornpipe) for an encore followed by the rest of the fantasia programme. I hope there will be an encore again this year, assuming that the unruly mob further back the Arena behave themselves...

It may be useful to recall that the Proms Guide (prospectus) described it as Wood's Fantasia on British Sea Songs 'concluding with' Arne's Rule Britannia! arranged by Sargent.

It should also be noted that Wood's Fantasia actually starts with a series of fanfares which are not played at the Proms. Not being old enough, I do not know when these were dropped (they last about 4'12).

The main difference between Wood's and Sargent's arrangement is that there is no soloist or choir part in the Wood. There are also some differences in orchestration (Wood certainly makes more use of the organ) and Wood has three verses (I think) whilst Sargent went the whole hog and added the fourth.
