". . . recently he's been played more at the proms than most places". Over the same period (94 to present), one organisation has performed his Cornish Dances, Second Clarinet Concerto, Second Symphony, Fourth Symphony, and Fifth Symphony. Today (16 June 01) they do the Little Suite No. 1, and in October the Philharmonic Concerto. All this in a season of 4 concerts a year and a budget of 2 cabbages and a carrot (compared to the Proms!). OK, so the Slaithwaite Philharmonic may not be the world's best orchestra, but nevertheless Arnold himself attended - and thoroughly enjoyed - the performances of both the 4th. and the 5th.

Moreover, if you scrape off the veneer of 'populism', you'll find innovation/originality enough to blow the lid off your brain! Of more concern than the Establishment's continuing refusal to 'accept' Arnold's music is the Wall of Silence with which you are met when you ask the simple question, "Why?"
