 Whatever it is, a double dose for those stupid (plentiful expletives deleted) with mobile phones who, after the annoyingly loud RAH/BBC announcement, STILL don't turn them off. I heard two last night alone, one in the Rouse and one in the Mahler, as did several members of the orchestra.

If a suitable detection and location system could be used (triangulation, perhaps), combined with a computer model of the Hall, perhaps some high-powered spotlight could be aimed at the offender so that everyone knows who was responsible. Then the angry mobs from arena and gallery could join forces to eliminate any possible re-offence by confiscation of the phone and ritual dunking in the fountain. Perhaps this could be extended to the introduction of a ducking stool?
