Thank you Kathryn but the unseemly diatribe going on in the "other forum",(BBC Forum),is a clear indication of what I feared would happen once the concert remained in place. Out from under the floorboards have come all those people, (however well meaning), who subscribe to various political/musical philosophical views in which they argue for and against including patriotic anthems and associate Beethoven's Ninth with politics and the European Community. Whatever the rights and wrongs of these views it is too bad that they are being discussed just now and at the same time as people are being dug out of the ruins of one of the World's greatest disasters. Can I implore people, especially my fellow promenaders, to indulge in a respectful restraint, at least until some healing time has passed and resolve, now that the concert "is" going to take place, to make it a solemn and memorable occasion of which we can be proud.
At times like these, "Silence is Golden".
