I'm not sure the IP address would have been much use for tracking someone down would it? People connecting via an ISP (most I should imagine) would have a dynamically assigned address.

And for those of us connecting from behind firewalls the IP address shown may well be different to the real one. For example mine (and many others) was always shown as 192.x.x.x which given that it should have been 15.14x.x.x always puzzled me. Though it did reassure me that if anyone took offence at my reviews they would have trouble tracking me down to dispense a good kicking! (In any event, don't mess with me, I've got a Chalklin triangle beater in my jacket pocket and they're lethal).
