Thoughts from first run through. Hope they are useful.

Money
As expected, money seems to be the gating item in this game.

Set up the 3 gold mines for peak efficiency and together they can generate 3600db per year. The Palace was set roughly equidistant from the two gold mine locations so that the cart pushers arrived at the Palace at about the same time. Deleting a tile on the return path before delivery is necessary to ensure max efficiency. This is not as hard as it sounds as it happens consistently at about the same time every month and the map is very small so you are invariably focused on that part of the map anyway.

Don’t accept the gifts from Abedju, they cause KR to decrease and require paying back with interest.

Trade the max wood and copper every year.

Get a major blessing from Ptah and sell the resulting pottery.

Make sure you make a profit every year after the first or prosperity rating will decline.

Don’t build unnecessarily. I found that a population of about 650 was adequate. If you have excess money at the end of a year, try to spend it (while still maintaining a profit) so that it isn’t wasted in excessive tribute.

Kingdom Rating
It took me half the game to figure out how to optimize this. Firstly, comply with all requests. Secondly make sure you make a profit and send tribute each year. Finally give gifts to Pharaoh as follows:
In the first year, give 1600db of your savings to the city, and set salary to zero. In DEC give two lavish gifts to Pharaoh. They will increase KR by 10 and 5 respectively. Keep salary at zero for the end of DEC as this give an extra point. In January set salary at 100db per month. Set it back to zero in August (when you should have 600db in savings). Give the gifts again in DEC. Repeat each year. Note that attempting to give more than 2 gifts every 12 months results in diminished benefit.

I’m not sure what the maximum achievable is because I didn’t follow the above for the whole game. I finished with KR of 73, suspect near 100 might be possible.

Culture Rating
This will be limited by having enough funds to build everything you need. A senet house is needed to get beyond 50, and a library to get beyond 60. Both are expensive, but note that they don’t need beer or papyrus delivered, they just need to be staffed.

Prosperity Rating
Note the comment above about making a profit each year. Try to keep unemployment between 0 and 5%, and try to ensure that exports earn more than imports cost each year.

Until the luxury goods become available towards the end of the game, the highest housing level attainable is fancy residence and these give a maximum PR of 90. Fancy residences require: access to 2 gods, a physician, a dentist, a scibal school, a courthouse, 2 types of food, pottery, beer and linen.

When luxury goods become available, they should evolve to spacious manors and push the PR to 100.

Religion
You can ignore Osiris, don’t build any temple or shrines. He will get very mad and do all sorts of mean things, none of which have any negative effect in this map.

One temple to Bast is sufficient to keep her happy the entire game. There’s not much point in doing more because her blessings are not very helpful.

Ptah, however, can be useful. A major Ptah blessing will select a storage yard and increase the amount of gems, clay, pottery, flax, linen or jewelry already there. In this game the only good available for increase is pottery. So reserve a SY and import 100 pottery into it. Then get the major Ptah blessing and it will fill to 3200 pottery. You can then sell the pottery to Tyre. This is a good way to get extra funds. To get the major Ptah blessing, build 2 temples, hold festivals and don’t accept any minor blessings. Note that it is not necessary to incur the cost of the festival square: first construct a crossroads somewhere on the map (doesn’t need to be near anything else), then build the festival square, schedule the festival (common is fine), the hit undo to delete the festival square. This is a permitted game feature.

Monument
I started the monument at the beginning of 1553. Keeping construction to the minimum I built just one carpenter guild and one stonemason. The monument finished in NOV 1548. This is cutting it a bit fine, but there were times when the carpenters had no wood and this was the gating factor. If the carpenters are kept supplied with wood there should be no problem staring the monument in 1553.

Military
Military elements are expensive and overspending will limit the funds available to increase the CR. I did build an academy and a second charioteer fort. Next time through I’d like to try it with just one fort. This may require that I comply with the extortion from Qaadesh in FEB 1552 because the troops are away when the subsequent invasion occurs. On the other hand, 4 chariots cost 1200db and a second fort would cost 1000db. 4 weapons are granted for victory at Tyre, I don’t know if 4 infantrymen can defeat the invasion in AUG 1550. I suspect the academy is needed. I was defeated in the last battle after sending 14 charioteers from the 2 forts. I hope 1 full company will suffice. Obviously, more work is needed on the military side.
