I don't know if I will ever get a good score in this. I tried your ideas for the first year all morning and the best I can come up with is this so far.
Jan 1554 CR 5 (I had enough money to build the temple)
PR 4 MR 0 KR 28 (had to get to that as a priority)
I had 288 people with 47 gold for a 47 profit for the year. I redid dec a number of times to spend the max and still have my 50 tribute left.
I would have had a lot higher pop and more gold but for the scorpions who ate a lot of immigrants and gold cart pushers. Maybe I will do it all again.
My balance sheet Exports 8875, gifts 1600 and gold 900 for 11,375.
Costs; Imports 6767 (imported 1400 grain as well as wood and copper), wages 174, construction 4168, interest 169 and tribute 50 for a total of 11,328.
The interest could have been lower if I had put the 1600 into the city earlier in the year instead of waiting until dec like you suggested. What was the reason for that suggestion? I can put the 1600 to the city and send the 2 lavish gifts in jan 1555 without building the personal mansion which I can leave until dec or even jan the next year and still save the 600 next year.
The scoprions caused me a lot of trouble this time and I tried to fence them in a lot and kill them off but both lots caused trouble. I think its just random where they go and a new start might see them go somewhere where I can close them off completly quicker.
The houses that we are feeding the grain too will they include the higher level housing later or will that be a seperate housing block? So I can try and do a good set up from the start.
This is hard as I have to get a score of 220+ do make it worth while me entering compared to my audition score.
