I was something of an outside observer in that war. That was also when KQV-FM started airing the automated "Love" package of album cuts. Shortly after that, it changed its calls to WDVE. I bought an FM converter for my car, and then when I got my "hippie van", I bought an FM radio for it. When stuck in a car with AM only, I'd bounce between KQV and WIXZ whenever a commercial or lame song came on whichever one I was listening to. I never heard the end of "Sugar, Sugar", unless both stations were playing it at the same time. And I really, really liked what they were playing on KQV-FM and then WDVE. To this day, lots of the album cut songs from that era are still in heavy rotation on my in-car MP3 system, including lots that were forgotten by the "Classic Hits" or "Classic Rock" radio stations.
