Columbia also won the Ivy League Championship in the year 1961 when the Lions defeated Cornell before a capacity crowd of nearly two thousand roaring fans at the old gymnasium on the Columbia campus. Trailing Cornell by several points very late in the match, the Asack Brothers, powerful Bob and gigantic Lew, two of the greatest athletes to ever don the light blue, dominated their Cornell opponents in the 191 pound and heavyweight classes to win the meet. WKCR, Columbia's radio station, broadcast the historic match throughout the New York Metropolitan Area.
