 E.J. Perry and his Michigan Panthers of the UFL are the undercard to the Iowa-South Carolina main event today. He looks good, the same guy who passed and ran so well on our gridirons not long ago.

I think that the UFL has a chance to catch on. The key is to have a television product which looks first rate. And so far, the UFL looks like the NFL on television. There are virtually no spectators in the stands, but that doesn't really matter at this point.

Spring football can make it in America. Keep your costs down, don't think of yourself as competing against the NFL as much as supporting it, and focus on the television product.

Everything you needed to know about Donald Trump as a businessman was demonstrated when, just as the USFL was starting to gain traction in the mid-Eighties, he browbeat his fellow USFL owners to shift to a fall schedule in direct competition with the NFL. Kind of like the British "Light Brigade" deciding to charge right at entrenched Russian artillery positions during the Crimean War. In most endeavors, there's a right way and a wrong way to do things.
