There is so much bad info and analysis here. Ivy AD's and Presidents can't stop NIL. They can't stop collectives. There is no reason to pat anyone in the Ivy on the back and claim that they are heroic, when they are acting beyond their authorities of trying to ban comething which is case law and stautorily permitted. And no, Princeton does not have anything approximating a robust NIL progran. They have what is tantamount to when we all went to college, a bulletin board in which someone posts that they want a ride home to NYC and another student calls back and says yes. And McDermott did nothing even remotely suggested in the other thread giving her plaudits.

Kudos to Dartmouth's President Slan Bellock for clearly and forcefully articulating the Ivy League ideals for amateurism in athletics and basketball in today's WSJ article, "Dartmouth Will Oppose its Basketball Team Union". This article is a must-read for Ivy sports fan who wrestle with the reality that recent developments with NIL Collectives, poaching of players through transfer portals, big coaching salaries from ever-increasing revenues will impair the ability of Ivy teams to compete, in the future, with the Power teams.

Bellock's article persuasively reminds us that the Ivy League's objective is to offer varsity athletics as a means toward enhancing the educational experience and developing leaders. I am proud to be associated with a League that strives to preserve this philosophy even if it results in some defeats on the hardwood and a lower KenPom rating.

Agreed.

I don't know why a Big10 alum is so exercised about what the IL does.
