Remember, though, that the initial 53-man roster is always subject to a lot of shifting the first couple of weeks. For example, teams frequently hold off signing or keeping veterans at first so as not to have their salaries become guaranteed for the entire season, then when they sign the vets, rookies or fringe players can be cut.
