Congratulations to Columbia for being named National Team of The Week by Stats Preform! What a way to start the Jon Poppe tenure.

Thanks. Yes, a good start, particularly given that most people looked at Lafayette's ranking and were highly certain that the game would go their way. What happened was the opposite. Columbia rolled over Lafayette, led from minute 1 to the end, had not one but two new highly effective QBs each tossing two TDs, and got solid performance from the lines, receiver corps, running backs, kicker, and others--truly a whole-team effort.

As significant as their ranking was, I think more significant was the fact that Lafayette came into the game having already played three games giving them the enormous benefit of having been able to shake things out, whereas Columbia came in cold not only playing its first game, but doubly cold setting up under a new coaching staff.

In the post game presser McFadden said that the big gap between a team which has played 3 games versus a team with none is that the team playing its first game is not as well conditioned as a team which has already played several games. Poppe and staff masked that with frequent substitutions.
