Last week my picks were 2-4 and 1-0 for sprint football.

Harvard seems to have deviated from the two QB system. Looks like Charles DePrima has gone from a co -starter to a glorified Wildcat quarterback. Last week Team captain, 2023 All -American and 2023 Ivy leading rusher Shane McLaughlin was MIA. I can’t figure out what Harvard is doing with their offense.

Cornell’s consistency is being inconsistent. So nothing different here.

Penn continues to move the offense with six yard runs and six yard pass routes.Penn’s stringent defense line was uncharacteristically pushed around by Dartmouth’s run game.

Columbia’s offense is alive! At this point there’re back to the winning ways. Columbia’s offensive line deserves a Lions share of the credit for Joey Giorgi’s stellar performance.

Princeton looks lost. They’ve used their physicality to become a powerhouse. Last season only the defense had it. Without their physical play on both sides of the ball they look directionless.

Brown’s defense is having a strange pattern. Week one they gave up 14 points, week two it was 28 and week three they gave up 42. Jake Wilcox is doing a great job of going from a one dimensional drop back passer to a dangerous dual threat.

Dartmouth obviously was inspired by the name revision of “Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field “. Big Green for the moment looks like the most complete team in the conference. Sammy McCorkle is keeping Buddy Teevens influence alive by playing championship-caliber football.

Yale RB Joshua Pitsenberger and receivers: Mason Shipp, Chase Nenad and David Pantelis did enough to aid their defense to keep the underdog Central Conn from becoming the Top Dog.

Harvard 31 Cornell 17
Yale 27 Dartmouth 24
Pennsylvania 28 Bucknell 21
Mercer 42 Princeton 17
URI 38 Brown 31

Sprint Football
Penn(2-0)31 Cornell (1-2) 10

Gentlemen; although it is nice to see early pigskin prognostications for this weekend, giving our blue the edge over the Indians it’s difficult to equate a 3–0 Indian squad with our blue having trouble to be successful against Saint Margaret school for the blind that being said, I like our blue this weekend, lions, tigers, and Bears

Dartmouth over Yale by a touchdown. As others have pointed out in the past, Dartmouth lives rent free in Reno's head.

Columbia 28 Wagner 7
URI 21 Brown 12
Princeton 28 Mercer 27
Dartmouth 24 Yale 7
Penn 38 Bucknell 21

Quaker defense needs to make plays. Dartmouth offense makes crucial plays. Columbia must avoid reading their press clippings. The score in Ithaca could be more like a basketball game. Brown needs to focus. I think Surace circles the wagons in Princeton and wins.

Mr. Fear the Quaker.

But if Princeton knocks off Mercer, I'll be shocked.

Despite the loss in Hanover last weekend, Penn still looks extremely dangerous. Dartmouth's defense played very well and limited the damage from Penn's biggest offensive weapons. And the Big Green offense is capable of even more.

Thinking that Penn is going to soundly beat Bucknell this Saturday. And that the Big Green's defense is capable of making any team in the league truly miserable on a given Saturday.

Jake had one of his best lines ever in this week's picks:

"I can't remember the last time Princeton was a 23.5-point underdog. Neither can you."

If the Tigers beat Mercer, I suggest that we all have Fear The Quaker manage our FanDuel accounts, to say nothing of our investment portfolios.

As a reminder, Vanderbilt was a 22.5-point dog at home against the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide. Princeton is making the longest Ivy road trip in years.

I forgot to add Columbia 28 Wagner 17.
Speaking of Vanderbilt and Alabama reminded me of a quote “ You can’t be Harvard Monday through Friday and try to be Alabama on Saturday”- Art Guepe, Vanderbilt coach 1962.
AO brought up an interesting thought on Princeton’s road game to Mercer being the longest travel in years. Hate to state the obvious but the Ivy’s almost never venture out of New England. I’ll have to look it up but the last Ivy road game this far might’ve came in 1991 Cornell @ Stanford. Ironically, today is a typical road game for the four super conferences.

Among other examples, Princeton played at San Diego just last year.

When the Yale-Mercer 4 game series was announced in 2018, it supposedly included a game at Mercer in 2023. What happened?

I said that it would be the longest Ivy road trip in years. 2023 and 2024 are both years. So I think, technically, I'm correct.

Not following that explanation, as a more distant road game was played in 2023.

But no matter, and to return to the remanining question - what hapened to the additional 2 games originally announced between Yale and Mercer (my mistake - it was announced in 2016, not 2018)?

Mercer got an opportunity for a guarantee game at Alabama in 2021 (the year of the second Y-Mercer game), and had to shuffle their schedule, moving a conference game to the date of the Yale game.
I am guessing at that point the schools mutually decided to scrap the remaining games -- either that, or scheduling fallout from the Covid-canceled season necessitated a dissolution of the agreement.
(Also worth noting that I don't think Mercer was too happy with the condition of the Yale Bowl "grass" field -- a.k.a., the Sandbox -- in the 2018 game; not sure if that factored into the decision-making.)

The Yale game may be Cornell’s only win this season. They need time to bring their own recruits Archer left them with nothing. Having the smallest DL in the Ivy League is too difficult a hurdle to overcome this season.

Princeton was probably a 20-or more underdog when they played northwestern.

But I’ll check Jake’s archives to see if they were that big a dog against penn or Harvard in 2010-11.

Princeton was a 30.5 underdog to Harvard in 2011.

They covered the spread.

I think Cornell will give Harvard a good game, but the Crimson will most likely pull away in the second half.

Princeton will have their hands full against Mercer as they are 5-0. In 2013 they opened a beautiful new 10,500 seat stadium at a cost of $14MM. If an Ivy League school built the exact same facility on their campus, I'll bet it would cost three or four times as much as Mercer.

Harvard passing game surprising. 275 yards an 4 first half TD’s. Craig still isn’t accurate, but came in averaging 18 yards per reception. Talented WR’s.

McLaughlin injured again. Harvard admitted resting him last week against OOC New Hampshire. Wouldn’t be surprised if he sits out second half and next week vs Holy Cross.

Crimson don’t seem to have confidence in freshman PK.

Did Reno go for 2 instead of playing it safe? Why gamble if you are playing at home and probably would have outlasted Dartmouth in another OT?
