Zalc's 54-yarder against Harvard last Saturday got me wondering what the longest field goal in Ivy history was.

I googled, and game up with this?

And no, I'm not going to revise Mr. Haxall's Wiki page. :)

Cornell's kicker Ron Rejda I remember kicked a 51 yarder in 1979. I think that's the only time I have seen an Ivy League kick over 50 yards. Go Big Red!

Cornell's record book doesn't list Rejda as making a 51-yarder.

https://cornellbigred.com/sports/2023/6/19/game-records.aspx#FG.LNG

Then again, they don't list his 47-yarder against Harvard in 1979 either.

https://www.thecrimson.com/article/1979/10/13/cornell-swamps-crimson-41-14-pithaca-ny-harvard/

(And that was a real dick move by the Cornell QB to throw a bomb for a td with a minute to go when the game was clearly over. I don't care if he was third string. Would be curious to know if Harvard got any payback for that in the ensuing years...).

Scolding Cornell football over a touchdown pass thrown 45 years ago. Sorry, some humor there. :)

Restic and Blackmon died in 2011 and 2000. There ghosts are probably laughing. Blackmon coached a long time at Dartmouth. You had better check his record at Dartmouth too. :)

Let's hear it for Ralph! One man offense machine!

From: https://gocolumbialions.com/news/2020/10/28/football-columbias-top-10-game-winning-field-goals.aspx

5. Ralph Hewitt | Nov. 1, 1930 (Columbia 10, Cornell 7)
A week after he defeats Willliams on a last-minute field goal, Hewitt drop kicks the game-winning 52-yard field goal and returns a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown in a 10-7 Columbia win over Cornell at Baker Field. Hewitt scores all 10 of Columbia's points. His 52-yard field still ranks as the longest field goal in school history and his 92-yard kickoff return touchdown is one of the longest in school history.

And good for Columbia for shaking off a 52-0 loss to Dartmouth at Memorial Field the week before in beating Williams!

Please tell me that you've got memorized Dartmouth game scores back to 1930.

I had to look it up.

But I do know that by that era, Dartmouth was generally kicking the #### out of teams that ended up being classified as Division III.

So I was not surprised to see that we easily handled Columbia in a year that they needed a last-minute field goal to beat Williams.

... Dartmouth claimed its only national championship in 1925.

I certainly hope that Dartmouth does something to mark the 100-year anniversary of that team next Fall!!!

Referencing your use of the term "kicking the #### out of teams," this morning on ESPN College Game Day, Nick Saban was talking about one of his Alabama offenses when he said on live television, "We went down the field like s--t through a tin horn."

Then the other guys on the set reacted and repeated "s--t" on national television.

Only four days later and already the rules have changed.

It feels decadent to have a kicker like Zalc.

I was actually confident when he trotted out on to the field, and I think his kick would've been good from 60.

With all due respect...I'm talkin' dropkick heah, 52 yards. Yeah, maybe the ball had rounder ends, still a hell of a long way to go with precision.
