Subject: A strange Call that was probably correct

On Monday, Brown's men's basketball team lost to Siena in OT. But with two seconds left in regulation, Brown had the ball and a chance for a winning field goal. A Brown player threw the ball to midcourt. It was caught by another Brown player who tossed it to Kino Lilly who took an off balanced shot that wasn't even close. Now here is the thing. The clock should not have begun until the ball touched the Brown player at midcourt. But the people directing the clock started it when the ball was thrown in. Thus taking at least a half a second off of the clock. The Brown coach, Mike Martin, argued until he couldn't. The refs reviewed the play on the Siena video equipment, but couldn't come to a conclusion. However, those streaming the game showed on replay that Brown lost at least .5 second as the ball was travelling from the endline to center court. So why didn't the refs go by the streaming video? It wasn't explained but my guess is that they have to go by the "official" equipment that is provided by the home team. At any rate, Brown went on to lose the game and I have no problem with that as they let it get away from them. But I posted because I had never seen a situation like that before and I thought others might be interested. Just saying.

Funny how those type of things seem to happen more often when the visiting team is trying to tie or win a close game with time running out. It sounds like Brown was owed a do-over upon further review even if it was a “long shot.”
