Freshman QB looked very good. Classy move at end when Columbia receiver could have walked into the end zone but slid down around the 10

At Brown; next week Cornell at home, and Cornell is rolling over Dartmouth.

Columbia scores three TDs powering a solid win over Brown. Columbia breaks in not one but two new QBs, each of whom made some nice tosses for big gains. Canty with 183 yards and Georgi with 108 yards. Defense played very well stepping up when needed with a number of high-stakes stops. Some errors to be cleaned up, but a good job overall.

Fake punt call by Coach Poppe caught Brown completely by surprise and was perfectly executed by the Lions. Our freshman quarterback, Caleb Sanchez, was outstanding as were Bryson Canty Marcus Libman, Jordan Kelly and our other wide receivers. Canty seems likely to be a high draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft although he has already entered the transfer portal. Coach Poppe and his staff are doing a great job. Next up is Cornell.

Columbia simply overpowered Brown. Brown couldn't run and they couldn't pass on Columbia. It was a good old fashion beat down. On his radio show this week Perry was trying to insinuate that the Brown lines outplayed the Yale lines last week. Say what? This bothers me more than losing. If you get beat, admit it. Don't try to claim some moral victory that wasn't. Well, today Columbia controlled both lines of scrimmage and I don't want to hear Perry say otherwise. Brown was not only outplayed, but they were also outcoached. The fake punt was one stroke of brilliance, but why Perry continued to try the kodiak on short yardage situations I will never know. They were stopped at least 5 times; you would think that after a while he would realize that Columbia was on to it. The other issue was 2nd and 6 and a long pass that had no chance of completion. Thus, making it 3rd and 6 and a useless run of no gain followed by the inevitable punt. But I will say this, the Brown defense played much more aggressive and on occasion did a good job. How much longer Perry will last is hard to say. As we said earlier, he is a legendary football player, but so far, he has shown no coaching ability. None.

Who were the key short yardage defenders against the Kodiak? Was John Martin in on those stops?

Remarkable poise today from the freshman quarterback, who would be a lock for league rookie of the week if he weren't also the frontrunner for offensive player of the week. Good to see Giorgi and Canty finishing strong.

So for the first time since I started paying attention 25 years ago, our Lions go into Week 10 with a chance at a share of the league title. And a decent shot, too: Take care of business at home with Cornell and hope Yale can beat Harvard, as Brown did, as Dartmouth nearly did, as Penn nearly did today.

Thanks are due to Coaches Bagnoli, Fabish and Poppe, to Director Pilling and the Athletic Department, and, most of all, to the players and their families for turning the program around, for proving that Columbia football can win, for making the Lions something like perennial contenders.

Great comment. We should all appreciate everyone who has had a hand in Col football over the last decade or so. Lots of negativity on Jake’s blog. I always assume disgruntled parents.

The players are not interested in moral victories. They would love a piece of the title, but they know they didnt take care of business when they could control their own destiny. I find that refreshing - accountability.

Cornell can not only beat the lions, their offense can make them look bad. I hope they come ready to play. If they take care of business we can then hold our noses and root for Y

The thing about Harvard-Yale is one of them has to win. This year, it might as well be Yale —

How did Penn put up 67 points on Cornell? P, shame Penn wilted at the end after outplaying Harvard for 58 minutes

Now our win at Penn seems even better - but honestly, the Penn kicker missed a pretty easy field goal - with under 2 minutes left - somewhat like the our usually super dependable Columbia kicker missing two during the game - also similar to our women's team - two missed free throws at last second of game and we lost 68-67

Next Saturday's game between Columbia and Cornell at Baker Field in Manhattan is a sports marketing exec's dream with numerous terrific storylines--best college football game in New York State in decades--upstate vs. downstate--two outstanding college quarterbacks who are already better than their counterparts on the Giants and Jets--an outstanding wide receiver pro prospect in Bryson Canty. Hopefully, the Columbia and Cornell Athletic Athletic Adminisrations don't waste this unique opportunity to market Ivy League Football.

I am going to be a Yale fan for a day—Harvard did not look great against Penn, and Yale has the horses to beat those guys.

Columbia’s win over Brown with Caleb Sanchez at the controls suggests that he will start against Cornell.

Looking farther ahead, that will set up quite the QB competition next season between the undeniably excellent sophomore, Chase Goodwin, and the singularly impressive first year, Caleb Sanchez.

Think both of them will be back, too, and looking to be part of the mix.
