"Historically, the primary barrier preventing alumni and fans from directly giving money to college athletes was the NCAA's strict "amateurism" rules, which prohibited student-athletes from receiving compensation beyond their scholarships, effectively barring them from profiting off their name, image, and likeness (NIL); however, recent Supreme Court rulings and state laws have now allowed athletes to be compensated through NIL deals, meaning fans and alumni can now provide financial support through sponsorships and endorsements tied to the athlete's personal brand." So what prevents the formation of independent Quaker/Tiger/Lion/Red Bear/Bulldog/Brown Bear/Crimson/Big Green collectives that work with information they might receive from coaching staffs on prospective recruits or potential portal candidates?
