In reply to: Lurker 's message, "Obvious which team should have gone this year!!!" on 14:56:51 12/18/24 Wed

But Harvard would have gone since they beat both Dartmouth and Columbia.

Most tie-breaker rules have head-to-head records as the first determination.

The problem will be how to break a three way tie if each of the three teams had a win and a loss against the other two. It may have happened since, but I only remember 1969 when Yale, Dartmouth, and Princeton were all 6-1 in the league.

My guess is the best scoring differential in league play

They create bad incentives to run up scores.

I'd much prefer the league look to which of the tri-champs beat the fourth place team. And if two of the tri-champions have beaten the fourth place team, then the winner of the head-to-head game between them should get the bid.

I wish Yale had run up the score more on Dartmouth this year when they had the chance. ;)

Nope - best defense goes. Defense wins championships. Also League will use the NBC Olympic coverage rule: best story wins. RLR!!

Stick to tradition. Break ties by jousting.

My dude - objectively the purpose of a defense is to limit points scored by opposing offenses. Not yards gained, not first downs but points.

Our Lions were head and shoulders better than anyone else in IL. By definition, objectively the best defense. See that wasnt hard and clearly serious

Please be nice, it is the holiday season.

Taking my cues from you GG. Happy you’ve noticed

Now I have to start coming up with reasons why my Big Red are truly #1 as well. Probably something to do with thrashing Dart - no disrespect intended

But in successive posts - snd news to me - you've referenced 'our Lions' and 'your Big Red'; so perhaps you've taken ownership of the IL and are thus entitled to calling the shots as you see them on postseason participation. Mazel tov!

Or is there a simpler explanation? …

... if Columbia led the league in third-down conversions, our Lurker friend would find a way to insist that should be the standard to determine the champion.

:)
