Allowing for last season's disappointment, I had a hard time mustering the enthusiasm to collect this information. The only reason I did is because Perry got rid of some long-standing dead wood, so hope remains for Perry's tenure. But we will see next fall. I am of the opinion that unless Perry produces, his time as head coach is on very thin ice. Legend or not, it is all about the W's.

It's very impressive that Brown could secure a commitment from a quarterback whom SDSU wanted, even if the Bisons eventually won that tug of war.

Brown got a more impressive commitment from North Dakota a while back.

GG, I congratulate you that your post has survived as long as it has.

I met the individual in question a couple years ago at a Miss America pageant. Very impressive. Ivy undergraduate and law degrees. Ran for governor as a Democrat, then ran for governor as a Republican.

That might say something about our two parties, or more about her drive and determination.

I am not sure why Preston Otter committed to Brown back in July and was still gung-ho in December. Then he changed his mind in January. Unless there was some extenuating circumstances, young Mr. Otter showed no class and no integrity. SDSU may be on a higher plateau than the ivy league, but I am old school and when you give your word, you give your word. What a jerk, good riddance!

It happens all the time for various reasons, wanting to be closer to family, financial, etc. It may have been due to academics, in which case calling him a jerk is uncalled for.

He is graduating from Phillips Exeter, and I believe he was also the valedictorian of his high school class. So academics was not the issue. Furthermore, I qualified what I was saying before actually saying it. So, barring any unforeseen circumstances, he certainly acted like a jerk. When you renege on your commitment, you put the accepting university in a bad place because now they don't have one of the QBs they recruited. Where will they get a quality one at this late date? And yes, it does happen all the time, but that doesn't make it right. I am sure that there are many players who after they commit, get better offers, but stay with the initial commit. In life, integrity is worth more than just about anything else.

Maybe he had second thoughts about Perry's future after he replaced both his coordinators.

I think I was too quick to judge Mr. Otter. There could have been several good reasons for the flip. Primary among them could have been cost. Brown costs $90,000 per year. If Mr. Otter's parents make a substantial income, his financial aid may have been limited. In this event, the parents may have wound up paying $40,000 - $50,000 out of pocket a year. If he is on full scholarship at SDSU, then it would have been tough for him to let his parents pay so much when he could obtain a free college education. Other reasons could have included the release of the offensive and defensive coordinators, and I also believe the QB coach, Mrs. Marini, has moved on although nothing has been said about it. My apologies to Mr. Otter for being so rash. I hope he had a good reason, and I hope he reaches his potential at SDSU.

Changes in coaches were needed for the Bears.
Brown's defense has struggled for several seasons.
A new leader and philosophy were essential.
Last year the DL and OL coaches were new, with improvement in both.
