[ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 08:28:18 03/31/25 Mon In its long history, and much to the chagrin of its fans, Brown sports have found all kinds of strange ways to lose. But Saturday's loss to Cornell in baseball has to be one of the strangest. In a game in which the heavens offered no mercy, Cornell led after 7 innings. With the score 13-10 in Cornell's favor, it was on to the fateful 8th. Then the fog began to roll in. And as the fog rolled in, the Bears began their own roll to the tune of 10 runs. But the fog grew thicker and soon you couldn't see the outfield. Then with the score 20-13 in Brown's favor and while still batting, the umpires decided to call the game!! A great win for Brown?? Not a chance, the rules called for the game to conclude at the end of the previous inning, and Brown wound up losing 13-10. Of course, the Brown coaches and players were dumbfounded, but the rules are the rules. So how did this long suffering Brown alum take it? With a smile. Yes with a smile, after a while you get used to losing, and sometimes you just have to laugh at destiny. Besides, it is a loss for the ages. Anyway, if you’d like to feel worse, I believe league rules say that, had the same thing happened Saturday, the game would have been suspended and completed from that point Sunday.
