I agree with AO that we should move up the football season by two weeks for the following additional reasons. First, this provides more time off during the season for academic studies and for player injuries to heal. Second, the weather typically would be slightly nicer for our end of season rivalry games. Third, this would give our football players more time to prepare for fall semester final exams. Finally, there is ample precedent within our other Ivy team fall sports schedules.

Ivy soccer season commences the weekend of August 23rd and has six games scheduled before Saturday, Sept 13th.
Ivy water polo season commences the weekend of August 30th and has eight matches scheduled before Saturday, Sept 13th.
Ivy rugby season commences the weekend of August 30th and has two games scheduled before Saturday, Sept 13th.
Ivy volleyball season commences the weekend of Sept 6th and has four matches games scheduled before Saturday, Sept 13th.

Since virtually all sports programs start earlier, it is hard to come up with any reasons to delay the start of our football season to late September.

It's worth noting that, starting in 2026, the FCS season will actually start _before_ the FBS season does (excluding "Week Zero" games).

Going forward, FCS has 13 weeks to play 12 games, ending on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. That means FCS "Week One" is the last weekend in August (equal to FBS "Week Zero").

All the more reason for the Ivies to start earlier. For now, I'd be happy with moving up the start date one week and adding a bye. Starting two weeks earlier and finishing a week before Selection Sunday is also a good option. I would think the Ivy presidents wouldn't be terribly opposed to either approach. We can push for an 11th (or 12th) game later. Baby steps...
