Burnham is ‘31.

I did have Izayah Angeles but it now seems I misread a tweet, he noted he had an offer, not sure where he is going, you left him off so maybe you know?
Thanks for the list.

Good catch on Burnham, 247 listed him in the ‘26 class but I saw elsewhere that he will be taking a PG year.

This site, which has the most complete list I have seen of Princeton commits, includes Angeles but I agree if he hasn’t posted on X then then his status is still TBD.

surprised that there is only one qb recruit. It has been a long time since we have had an outstanding quarterback.

Certainly different from past classes. On the other hand, Tigers have accumulated a large roster of QBs, some of whom were highly touted (to coin a phrase) and maybe they felt it was time to give them a chance and allocate roster space to other pressing needs.

If he ultimately enrolls, Wyatt Becker will be one of the highest rated QBs Princeton has every recruited, with offers from many blue-chip P4 programs (UGA, Oregon, Miami, FSU, Tennessee, etc.) before choosing Utah and then entering the portal following spring ball.

While Princeton has had some decent QBs, I'd say that the last Tiger to really scare people was John Lovett.

We also need to recruit or develop some wide receivers. Aside from Josh Robinson our receivers were subpar this year which is why our quarterbacks took so many sacks

Great example M3. I think he never physically developed enough. I went to a couple of practices that Coach Surace invited me to and he never looked any better than the QB's that were on the field. Even when he got some snaps in games, he just didn't look like what he was hyped to be. Sometimes, players just don't continue to develop like you think they will. It was a big dissapointment for sure.

In terms of the number of QBs on the roster, the cut back to 108 recruits is probably a factor affecting depth on some Ivy teams, especially if they rarely take transfers. Although in this case we have one such commit, we have taken just one other over several years in football. The P announcers, in contrast, noted that Y had six. Don’t know if that is accurate. The Montana State player in the post game dust up with his HC had just been talking with a Yale player who was his former teammate from another school, I believe.

I wonder what this cutback has done to JV teams.

After Princeton's Sweet 16 run in 2023 their basketball attendance went up the next season. Under current circumstances we as Ivy fans are missing out on watching athletes like Mack, Wolfe, Pierce, Lee, etc.

IIRC, recent Princeton QB Blake Stenstrom had transferred in from somewhere (Colorado?). As for Yale, yes, the Montana State player (Julius Davis) was talking to Yale backup QB Marshall Howe - both were Wisconsin transfers. Interestingly, one of the current Yale transfers (Ezekiel Larry, a first-team all-Ivy DL) is a roundtrip - he started at Yale, transferred to SDSU and came back. Now he's in the portal again for his senior year...

to maintain a loyalty to this page and to so-called intercollegiate athletics, in general: https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/basketball-player-gets-four-years-of-college-eligibility-despite-being-drafted-by-nba-in-2023

This is really the existential question which faces intercollegiate sports:

Will alumni and fans continue to support their teams when players transfer in and out every year, when your star may have played for your rival the previous season, and when you know he picked your school because boosters offered more money than your rival did?

The early indications are that, at the top of the football and men's basketball food chain, fans will still support the product on the field or the court.

The most rabid fans don't support sports because they like watching great athletes perform amazing feats with a football or basketball.

No, the most rabid fans support sports because winning vicariously through young men makes the fans feel better about THEMSELVES. Fans are achieving vicariously by grabbing onto the reflected glory of people they don't know and will never meet.

I guess that doesn't change as we transition from a time when a young man chose, say, Michigan because he wanted to play in the Big House and join the tradition of the maize and blue to a new era when the CEO of Oracle Larry Ellison gets into a bidding war with LSU boosters and wins the auction for star quarterback Bryce Underwood.

In the infamous words of Michael Corleone, "It's just business."

I find this new era less compelling, but I think I'm in the minority, as you seem to be as well, Michael.

Here's a hypothetical question: Suppose that we were all wealthy software entrepreneurs like Ellison. If a booster club came to you and said, "For $10 million, we can get the next star quarterback to come to Columbia/Cornell/Dartmouth instead of going to Brown/Harvard/Princeton where he's currently leaning. Can we count on you for $5 million of that?"

I'd say "no." As much as I want my team to win, I have no interest in joining the rat race. I'd rather fund a professorship or a financial aid scholarship, even as I drive to the games and root for my alma mater.

I’m with you AO, the new free agency era in college sports is eroding my level of interest. I hope this dynamic does not infest the Ivy League the way it has the power conferences but your scenario is not hard to imagine.

I am with AO and Tiger81 on this one. I want competitors who are committed to the institution first, not to the highest bidder. If this means less talented teams, so be it. If they don’t matriculate to get the degree, they really are not Tigers.

As much as I hate to credit a Princeton guy, I once again channel Pete Carril: “When you join the rat race, you are, by definition, a rat,”

"The most rabid fans don't support sports because they like watching great athletes perform amazing feats with a football or basketball."

Then what do they support?

Looking at attendance figures at Ivy football and basketball games (outside of the HY football game) who says the IL has any rabid fans beyond the parents of the players and the old people on this Board?
