Looks like it was over 52,000 at the Yale Bowl for the game.

https://x.com/Yale/status/1992605399371940324/photo/3

Wanted to give that crowd the respect it deserves -- a crowd far larger than any other Ivy school's attendance for the entire season.

Brown (4 games) - 12,125
Dartmouth (5 games) - 22,738
Penn (5 games) - 23,170
Princeton (5 games) - 24,753
Columbia (5 games) - 26,428
Cornell (5 games) - 27,084
Harvard (5 games) - 48,178

Yale (6 games) - 21,889 + 52,497 The Game

Ivy attendance looks to be dipping well into high-school territory. Glad at least one game a year still seems somewhat relevant as a sporting event.

This is a better picture to capture the crowd. Taken right before half time.

Gentlemen; regrettably the administration, including the athletic Director incorrectly failed to remove the tarps in both end zone which most likely would have had at least 5000 more in attendance at the $20 price forcing many not to attend at $120.

I wonder if any material costs are involved in removing the logo tarps. Obviously, a little labor is involved, but not much.

Given the additional revenue possible, I would think it's still a net positive to go through the exercise, not even accounting for the extra game day atmosphere benefit of more fannies in more seats.

I'm assuming for the time that the tarps can be removed and reinstalled without any problem. That may not be true.

The Game didn’t sell out the available seats so I don’t understand why the fixation on the additional seats covered by the tarps. If Yale could address the traffic flows in and out of the parking lots and maybe tear down the tennis stadium, it could have a reason to remove the tarps and get attendance over 60,000 again.

Yale could also use the baseball stadium auxiliary parking lot across the street from the Walter Camp Gate. It used to be used for football game parking decades ago.

If Yale was hosting a game this week in the Bowl, do you think we get anywhere near 52k this week? Probably not due to the holiday weekend.

That would be an emphatic NO. Why you ask. Ain’t got nothing with the Holiday at all. It has to do with this administration not knowing how to manage and market a golden goose. It infuriates me. To no end, Icky 🤢Vicky and her Colgate chums twiddling the thumbs. That’s why , Yale should be scheduling games from The SoCon conference, Big Sky , expanding the schedule. Making plans on starting the season sooner.
Speaking engagements with Elementary schools, VFW , Lions Club, Churches promote, ambassador YOUR SCHOOL.!! Get the people back in that bowl. Cuz it ain’t from your student body nor is it the alumni. It’s the people from your surrounding community and area . That will fill the Bowl. Change the policies that were made. So it feels like you’re welcoming people instead of loathing them.!!
THAT IS A START TO CHANGE TO GET PEOPLE BACK AT YALE. I’ve been saying it for YEARS.!!

You’re absolutely correct. I remember I went to a Yale basketball game with a couple of buddies in the 21-22 season and we were greeted with “what are you doing here” by a Yale hired staff upon entering Payne Whitney. Not exactly a welcoming atmosphere.

Gentlemen; I don't believe there is a universal hate of Ms Chen. I think it is respectfully she has not risen to the level of distinction of the past several athletic directors who relentlessly tried to bring our blue to a level of distinction, including fan participation.

Inwood Tiger aptly describes Ivy attendance as reaching high school levels.

Average attendance for in-conference games (excluding the outlier Y-H which heavily skews the numbers), since the current home/away rotations came into effect in 2018:

........2018 - 6,791
2019 - 7,224
2021 - 6,173
........2022 - 6,825
2023 - 6,304
........2024 - 6,272
2025 - 5,673

Comparisons should be made even-to-even years and odd-to-odd, as the venues are the same. That's why I staggered the table.

Attendance this year dropped 10% from 2023. Cumulative drop since 2019 is over 20%.
And we didn't even have any horrible weather games this year.

Games over 10k (excluding Y-H) -
Brown @ Harvard (Saturday night) - 16,283
Penn @ Columbia - 12,704
Dartmouth @ Harvard - 11,334
Cornell @ Penn - 10,914

Games under 3k -
Dartmouth @ Brown - 1,463
Brown @ Penn - 1,458

Friday night games average: 3,901
Saturday afternoon games average: 5,589

It's going to be difficult to reverse this trend. Students have so many other social attractions and activities to choose from today.

The students never have embraced the culture of sports. You have to reach out to the surrounding areas of the community. You have to start them young. Elementary school, Church, Pop Warner Football, you have to be gracious and inviting. Give them a reason to come back. Students!!

Not true. There are student college football fans on campus - but they're watching Ohio State/Michigan in the dorms. And Duke/UNC on ESPN. And betting on their phones.

The non-sports fans on campus (of which there is a large majority) couldn't be bothered to get to Yale Bowl even if gifted a free Tesla.

Others Wouldn’t understand, reason being Yale always had a decent following. When the students come , its. The majority of for just the Harvard game. I’m talking of a more sustainable long term solution.

What the board needs to be reminded of, from time to time, is that football is not the only sport on campus, even in the fall. A much larger percentage of the student bodies are recruited athletes, for a more expanded pallet of sports than in the halcyon days of yore. Even if their sport is not in season, these athletes train year-round. And being IL caliber, they tend to be focused on studies when not training, as they have little time other extra curriculars.

As a very recent grad, I can tell the board that one significant deterrent is just the kickoff times. For the Friday or Saturday night games, attendance seems to be pretty high. But at noon on a Saturday, most students are in the library or in their rooms, busy with work. I often had the Brown game on in the top corner of my computer screen while working.

This was the case at Brown and I believe it's safe to assume the same is true across the league. If games were just a little bit later, I think it would be a much more attractive prospect. Students are much more likely to attend if it becomes part of their social calendar for the night, rather than having to sacrifice study time during the day and having to make up for it on a Saturday evening.
