Brown showed a lot more on defense this year compared to last year, and hopefully improvement will continue. Offensively, as GBI points out, Murphy has a really nice arm and actually moved better than I thought possible given his size. The running game appeared and disappeared at various points during the season, though Brown never lost a fumble on offense. Perry clearly learned from the Cornell loss, passing on 3d down, with a lead, in the 4th quarter when necessary against Columbia and Dartmouth. If we had kept throwing a bit more against Cornell with a lead in the 4th quarter, we would have won that game as well. There clearly are some building blocks for next year. Hope springs eternal. We've got some "highly touted" guys in the pipeline waiting their turn. If you want to criticize McCorkle, ask him why the team doesn't play better on the road.

[> [> [> Subject: Re: Nah, we'll be back Author: Joe Friday [ Edit | View ] Date Posted: 10:58:14 11/23/25 Sun To the program’s credit, Dartmouth recruiting has been more professionalized/more resources dedicated for sure, and all of the IL programs are now landing guys they wouldn’t have gotten just a few years ago due mostly to the portal/roster management, but otherwise it’s TBD just as it always has been - an educated projection/guess based on physical measurables, game film and character assessment. I recall clearly on how some saw the D ‘21 first year guys - the Covid class - as being a weak recruiting class. Those guys all have three rings - two of which were earned as juniors and seniors - many legit contributors. The football graveyard is littered with the headstones of guys who were “highly touted” who began to believe their own hype and then don’t execute in the moment.

That's a big reason why Dartmouth was so lousy in the late 1990s to 2009. In those days, we were thrilled to get a recruit who also had an offer from (say) Army. Now, we pretty much expect that our recruits had multiple offers from competitive school teams.

Those Dartmouth no-star ‘21s are a legit example.

Hat tip to Brown for sure, but the reality is that Dartmouth did not play a clean game - constantly in third and long on offense, letting Brown hang around by virtue of four turnovers, and a clearly improved Brown team (especially the defense which stopped the D run more effectively than anyone would have predicted going into the game) stepped up and made the most of the opportunities they were given. This one stung for Dartmouth and it should - hopefully it will serve as motivation going into the off season.
