Yesterday’s 2-0 #9 Tiger win in Ithaca would seem to separate them from the pack a bit, especially with ties rampant across the rest of the league. Their goalie Andrew Samuels, with seven saves in his seventh shutout, may well be the best player in the league.

The current Top Four Ivies in the RPI are Princeton 1 (!), Brown 38, Cornell 52, Harvard 55

If a team is a credible championship contender and that is the season goal, a tie is a loss, especially in a schedule as short as seven games.

When the Packers and Cowboys play to a tie, that's half a win because their regular season is 17 games.

In the Ivies, for a single round robin, that's a loss.

HOWEVER, there are two exceptions. One is 1995. GG can explain. The other is 1968, for one of the two teams.

*&^F%!# Toches...

There are reasons why Tom Osborne is better remembered than Tosches (and Pat Dye, for that matter).

In this case, after only three of seven rounds, four teams have a tie and Penn has two. (3 of 12 matches have been ties)

So one way to look at it is that only two teams have 2+ wins. The other way is that NOBODY has three losses.

One odd element of these rankings is that #11 Bryant is actually #3 in the RPI, where Tigers are #1 as well. This is germane in that Bryant plays at Princeton this afternoon.

Exactly what drives me nuts about soccer:

— a really taut game between two top ten teams
— 0-0 final
— 5 total SOG
— 9 total corners

would one OT period kill anybody?
