I went to the Yale/Stonehill game yesterday on a beautiful Fall day. The game was a blowout and lacked any real excitement. I appreciate the effort by all the young men from both teams.

Due to the lackluster game, I looked around and I was so sadden. I have been attending Yale games since 1993 and my how far we have fallen from a game day experience.

It appeared it was Youth Day but there were only two towns present from what I could see. The Beckett days made Youth day such an event.

Also, where was the band and the cheerleaders?! Aren't they suppose to be vital components to the game day experience. Where is the Yale marching bank with their cool, wacky skits with their satirical commentary on current world affairs?!?!

I also only saw one Harris Tweed Jacket yesterday, presumably from J.Press. I use to love to see all the old Yale old timers walking in with their beautiful J.Press outfits, carrying their LL Bean Tote bag, and proudly wearing their Yale baseball cap representing their year of graduation. I guess those chaps are no longer around.

Finally, what ever happened to the Yale "Toad" tradition with the offensive line?

I guess I am just yearning for the things that I came to associate with Yale Football gameday experience as a local fan from the community...

While Dartmouth still gets an ample number of cheerleaders at games, our band is only a fraction of the size it used to be.

Gentlemen: It was Yale recess. Few students are even in town hence no band and no cheerleaders. And let's be honest it was not a game that attracted a great many onlookers, period.

A noon starting time makes it very hard for kids to come. I became a Yale fan in the 1970’s. I remember going to games with other kids after our Saturday morning football games were over. Back then the games started later. I remember 1:30 but other posters have said it was 1:00. Regardless, it was later than the noon starts we have today. Yale should move back its start times to 1:00, at least for games before daylight savings time. If they put permanent lights on the bowl they could have even later start times.

How are the students able to come out at Michigan and Ohio State for noon games? Do they really drink more in New Haven?

Those Yale students and recent alumni manage to make it to the Harvard game every year, usually a noon start. Harvard-Yale football is the only "must be there" sporting event left at Yale.

Basketball and hockey still get decent crowds on a much smaller scale, of course. Probably doesn't hurt that those venues are on campus.

I believe he was referring to local youth, who have morning activities. Unfortunately, the kick times are locked in place by the TV deals.
