Former Yale star Clay Patterson arguably cost Stanford a victory last weekend by celebrating a sack that gave Hawaii a second chance (which led to the deciding points).

Kudos to Jake for pointing it out...

Better in Honolulu than New Haven.

Pretty sure that's the only context in which a reasonable person could type those words.

Stanford and Yale have something in common--both have lost to Hawaii in Honolulu.

I was watching at the time. Definitely not representative of Ivy League football. Think he got a bit carried away trying to fit into the power 4 style.

He up until that play ,he was having a great game. On the 1st play he caused a fumble for a touchdown for Stanford’s 1st score.
In the play he had a 12 yard sack to take the Bow’s out of Field Goal position. Only to give them a 15 yard automatic 1st down. Leading to the Touchdown. (Dote).!!

Brings to mind Yale-Dartmouth 1975. Dartmouth scored a TD with under a minute left to take a 14-13 lead. Unfortunately for them, the player who scored decided to run by the Yale bench waving the ball. Unsportsmanlike Conduct was called. Dartmouth had to kick off from the 25. Yale ran the kickoff near mid field and ended up winning on a 47 yard FG.

The Yale student body was so I excited after Carter’s FG that the Yale band marched down the middle of the street to campus, with the drum major Alec Murphy getting arrested. That was also the game where Reggie Williams of Dartmouth went offside, leaping over the offensive line, and then got back on sides before the snap. What an athlete!

We were down 16-14 and threw a TD pass with about a minute to go. Our TE who caught the ball was so excited that he spiked it in celebration.

The entire Columbia bench wanted a flag, and they got it. Cameras showed Teevens being furious at our TE and giving him hell on the bench.

So we kicked off from our own 20. Columbia got the ball on their own 40 (give or take).

Fortunately, the defense did their job and we escaped with a 21-16 victory. But oh boy, if we had lost...

The Dartmouth player who drew the flag in 1975 at Yale was Harry Wilson (Russell's father).
