Subject: BALCOMB STILL IN RUNNING AT MINNESOTA

From todays Cinti Enquirer. A big ten school is only paying their women's coach $101,500 per year... I guess wants you get past Pat Summit and the guy at uconn, women's teams coachs are paid nothing like the men's...

BALCOMB STILL IN RUNNING AT MINNESOTA - Xavier University women's coach Melanie Balcomb has pulled out of the running for the vacant coaching job at Oregon but is still in the running at Minnesota.

It's unclear if Balcomb has officially interviewed for the position, but Bobinski said he allowed Minnesota officials to talk with her and said he is symbolically holding his breath that she doesn't take the position.

Bobinski recently gave her a raise and contract extension through the 2006-07 season.

''I hope that's satisfactory,'' said

Bobinski. ''I don't know what more we could do.''

Minnesota's last coach, Cheryl Littlejohn, earned $101,500 per season, but according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune it's doubtful the new coach would make that much because of financial difficulties in the athletic department.

Balcomb declined comment through a school spokesman; Minnesota women's athletic director Chris Voelz did not return phone calls.
