It is nice to see this sparking conversation and to hear about the other adventures happening around the continent.

My voyage has continued.
While I was waiting out a gale on gabriola I was paddling to shore in my canoe and the windage of my canoe makes it very challanging for me to paddle alone and my paddle snapped I was holding the shaft as the blade floated away, luckily I have a spare paddle. This makes me worry about only have to oars because I am a terrible sculler and I dont have a notch on my transom so I am thinking about making a third oar.

I left dedgen around noon because I had to wait for slack tide. When I depart I dont like to have one set destination for the day. I instead look at all the possible stops on the way to my ultimate destination. I look at these spots on the charts and read about them in the sailing directions so that I am know all my alternatives. I was sailing for saltspring but as the wind started to die down I made for clambay inbetween kuper Island and thetis Island. I went to shore and picked up a piece of drift wood that in and emergency could serve as a paddle. The floolowing day the weather I decided not to depart for I would have been sailing into to much of ahead wind for me to face singlehanded. I managed to turn my piece of driftwood into rough hewn paddle using a swiss army knife saw and a knife. I also paddled though the cut( a dredged narrow high tide water way between thetis and kuper Islands) after paddling through I am not sure I would want to take a sailboat though, If i did it would have to be on a rising tide. I went to the local marina to use the phone and have crabcakes for lunch. while I was there saw a guy stand in his dinghy using himself a sail to get from his boat to the dock. He had and awsome tender in was two part bolted together, so that i could be stowed, It had bilge keeli and a spot where a mast could be stepped.

The following day I paddled out of the bay to check the wind it seemed alright so I pulled up anchor and rowed out to the wind I ended up with a nice north wind blowing me down to long harbour saltspring Island. Rounding the corner into the harbour was challangeing because the was only a very light headwind to get to the end of the harbour Itediously tacked back and forth The ferry that goes into the bay came by so I lost some progress staying out of his way. I ended up becalmed and rowe half a mile till I found a small gust and I found a mooring bouy tie upto because I have been reading about the damage anchoring can do to kelp and other sea life. One possibility for small boats in small bays Is a double shore line this is perfect for the coves that are to small for the crowds.
but I made it to saltspring for a couple days to relax and visit friends and family. Ill keep and eye on the wind vancouver or victoria next. who knows this could end up being my oard club membership trip.
I am interested in linking up with other engineless sailing enthusiests to help with boat work be crew or take on crew or just drink beer and talk boats. If there is anyone in the around the salish sea give me a shout.
