Absolutely. With the additional layers of matt and roving required to do a proper job it ends up being closer to an inch. Thickness is not as big an issue as proper adhesion to hull with no voids. In cold climates folks might want more, but to stop condensation and related problems (mildew, etc.) the important thing is to slow down the rate of temperature transfer from the outside of the hull to the inside. All in all, I think insulation is a way bigger issue with boats than most manufacturers and builders will admit - especially if you live aboard. Of course it was never much of an issue with wooden boats. I had no trouble keeping warm in my wood cutter even in Alaska, and never any issues with mildew or condensation.
