Subject: Re-establish Oar Club SIte

I’m glad to hear many of you agree that the Oar Club should be kept alive; Bellingham Mike said it best: “…the ideals of the Oar Club need to be passed along to others and that information not shared is lost”. Kyle’s observation that sea-steading isn’t for the broad market whereas the Oar Club has the right focus catches the spirit of the club, and Bill hit the nail on the head with his observation that other sites on the web aren't for us.

I say we work together to reestablish the site. I think Kyle’s idea of building a new web site to give us a public face with an integrated forum is a great idea. For my part, I’d like to see a site that's easier to read and that doesn't spam the reader with advertisments. It should also include a member list so new arrivals can contact us if they want to find someone in their area who can help get them startd. Finally, one with new content that describes our lessons learned.

Of course, it goes without saying that we’ll need to put Jay Fitzgerald’s material up front for the simple reason that no one has said it better than he did.

If you guys are willing -or there are any others out there who want to keep the Oar Club alive, please send me your email address as I’m concerned that if we lose access to the message forum we won’t be able to get a hold of one another.

If you're with me on this, I propose that we raise a committee who can reach a consensus as to what direction the new site should take; secondly, we’ll also need to get Jay’s permission to take over site administration. If that comes together, we’ll need volunteers to serve as web masters, editors and contributors willing to spend the time and effort to keep the site provisioned with content.

If any of you are in favor or would like to express your own ideas to the group, please respond here. Be sure to include your email address so we can get together on Yahoo Groups or Google Groups to kick off the effort.

-Charlie
